VP'S ENJOY IDYLLIC CONDITIONS AT SUNNY NEWBIGGIN GC ON 2/4/2023

Blue sky, a sunny day & a gentle zephyr greeted SNCC VP's for their Spring Golf outing to Newbiggin by the sea on Sunday 2nd April. The wind turbines just turned! 16 attended including long distance travellers Nick Gandy (Suffolk), Graham & Viv Bruce (Cambridegshire) & a jet lagged Rob Peyton to whom we are indebted.
Apologies were sent by Messrs Reeman (Everest), Brown, Martin & Thompson (holidays), Campbell, Ruddick, Fletcher R (The Toon), Cockerill, Mackenzie, Tait (injuries), Ewart S & Southern A (County nets) so we were delighted to welcome James Elliott & John Laycock.
James Elliott, Mike Elliott & Peter Crane set off just before 1130, followed by Nick Gandy, Rob Peyton & Bill Kidd; Phil Ewart, John Laycock & Alan Dickinson, then Chris Harker, James Southern & Andrew Wilson & finally Colin Belfield, Graham Bruce & Malcolm Archer, accompanied by DDS on one leg !
Navigating the winter Dunes course & calculating handicaps was not entirely straightforward but at the end of 18 holes the winners on a magnificent 87 points were James, Mike & Peter. In second place were Colin, Graham & Malcolm on 85, third were Phil, John & Alan on 83. Balls were distributed!
The bacon roll & coffee before, hot soup & a bap afterwards were gratefully consumed.
As ever, grateful thanks were offered to Chris for organising the venue & to all who travelled & played. The weather was perfect! DDS was able to celebrate his birthday with a card signed by all & some chocolate biscuits...so nice to receive thank you !
The Toon & Bolton winning later in the afternoon were a bonus!!
The Autumn outing in late Sept/early October may be at Dunstanburgh, details to be confirmed in due course.
The first cricket friendlies are at home on Sat 8 & Sun 9 April & the first NEPL league matches are on Sat 15th April. We hope to see you then.
