VP'S DELIGHTED BY SUNNY NEWBIGGIN: RECORD SCORING ENSUES

1st Apr 2019

The Spring Golf outing travelled to sunny Newbiggin on Sunday 31st March. The early rain on Tyneside threatened but thankfully, beautiful blue skies & a gentle zephyr welcomed the party. Sumptuous bacon sandwich & coffee consumed,  the 14 set off at 1115 to tackle a slightly remodelled course with three shorter holes. Record scoring ensued in the idyllic conditions.

An original cast of 18 had become 14, as David Martin & the Sunderland hordes besieged Trafalgar Square, Peter Crane relaxed after cataract surgery,  Mike Elliott rested a dodgy ankle & Tom Seymour bemoaned an amnesia attack, from which 2 x 3 balls & 2 x 4 balls were formed.

Leading the way Dave Thompson (12), Duncan Mackenzie (18) & James Ruddick (22) two to count, & a record 86 points (44+42)  to win by one ! Birdies for Duncan at 6 & 15 & James at 13 just getting the better of second away, Alan Dickinson (23), Graham Bruce (16) & Chris Campbell (18), on 85 (45+40). In third were the last 4 ball of Chris Harker,(5), Nigel Campbell (13), Alan Fletcher (18) & James Brown (24) scoring 80 (41+39) & in fourth Colin Belfield (13), Bill Kidd (18), Malcolm Archer (18) & DDS (24) on 76 (42+34). All this with quick greens!

A lovely day was completed by delicious soup & sandwiches. Many thanks go to all who participated, on a day of competing claims, & put their clocks forward well, to Chris Harker for organising the course & date, to Graham & Viv for once again travelling from Bourn in Cambridgeshire to be with us. An entirely convivial day which we hope to repeat at the Bridle Path on Sunday 13th October. Dave Thompson, a member, is making enquiries on our behalf. If there are other suggestions, please let Chris Harker or Duncan Stephen know.
