VP golfers enjoy perfect conditions at sunny Newbiggin GC

13th Apr 2022

After a gap of two & a half years SNCC VP golfers enjoyed a Spring outing at sunny Newbiggin GC on Sunday 3rd April. We were delighted to welcome long distance travellers Nick Gandy from Suffolk & Graham & Viv Bruce from Cambridgeshire with 13 others, to play 18 holes. Peter Crane felt unwell & sent his apologies.

Meeting at 0930, 5 three balls teed it up from 1036 led off by Nick Gandy, John Hammill & Mike Tait. They were followed, in turn, by Ru Fletcher, James Brown & David Martin ; Rob Peyton, Nigel Campbell & Richard Miller; Graham Bruce, Phil Ewart & DDS, finally Chris Harker, Bill Kidd & Alan Dickinson. A range of handicaps in each three.

The course was in perfect condition, the breeze light & the greens quick. With the best two scores per hole to count at 90% of handicap, victorious on 86 were Rob, Nige & Richard, runners up on 80 were Ru, James & David, matched by Chris, Bill & Alan, also on 80. Graham, Phil & Duncan amassed 70 & Nick, John & Mike 68.

The bacon rolls & coffee before & the soup & large bap sandwich afterwards were consumed eagerly. Catching up was delightful.

We hope to reconvene in the Autumn (early October). A venue will be pursued, Close House filly may be an option.

Grateful thanks were offered to Chris for organising the venue & sourcing the prizes, (3 balls each for the winners, 2 each for the runners up & 1 each for third place), & to all who travelled & played, amid still uncertain times. It was a most convivial day, we must continue!

Duncan.
