TWO GOOD WINS IN A WEEK FOR THE 1864'S

Belsay 142-7 (20o) Sheron Jansz 60, Nuwan Liyanage 20, J Dawson 37*: Josephine Nkomo 0-43, Gregor Pearce 1-24, Varun Gudipati 0-17, Albie McPate 1-23, Patrick Hatcher 3-15, Will Young 2-15.

SNCC 1864 145-6 (19.1o) Will Garside 35*, Belinda Wewalage 28, Will Hall 16, Patrick Hatcher 24, Gregor Pearce 18: Dan Tait 1-38, Craig Bertram 2-26, Nuwan Liyanage 0-19, John Dawson 1-24, Paul Jackson 0-20, Richard Mills 1-16.

SNCC 1864 won by 4 wickets.

Belsay won the toss & chose to bat. Hedley (5) was bowled by Albie at 45 but Jansz, who had two lives, continued to attack. 88-2 when Liyanage (20) was bowled by Patrick & 94-3 as Jansz (60,39b, 4x4, 5x6) an important innings, finally succumbed in similar fashion.

John Dawson (once of this parish) was batting nicely but at 108 Mills (0) was also bowled by Patrick. Tait (1) was caught by Will G off Will Y at 109 & Gray (0) fell at the same score, bowled by Will Y.

Jackson (4) was lbw to Gregor at 126 but Dawson 37* (28b, 3x4,3x6) held the innings together in company with Bertram (7*), closing at 142-7 after 20 overs. Varun (2o) Albie (4o) & Will Y (2o) all bowled nicely under cup tie pressure.

George McConnell & Will Garside began the reply. At 30 George (6) was lbw to Bertram & at 32 Will C (0) was run out. Will G felt a twinge & retired not out so Belinda & Will H, on debut, pushed on, running well, in a partnership of 39 until Belinda (28,21b, 4x4) was caught off Dawson, 71-3 

98-4 as U15 Will H (16, 28b, 1x4) was caught off Mills. Patrick & Gregor hit 25 until Gregor (18,12b, 1x4 1x6) was bowled by Tait. Will G returned & was able to strike a few successful blows on one leg. Patrick (24, 22b 3x4) was bowled by Bertram at 131 but Will (35* 3x4,3x6) & Josephine (7*) saw the 64's home after one ball of the last over.

The quarter final is on Wed 21st June v Riding Mill (a)

SNCC 1864 207-4 (40o) Belinda Wewalage 58, Will Carr 19, Simon West 41, Will Alexander 40, George McConnell 30*: C Wilkie 1-59, B Taylor 1-36, A Jones 0-39, D Archbold 1-28, D Taylor 1-36.

Newton 77ao (22.5o) J Brown 21, A Jeffrey 23, A Jones12: Josephine Nkomo 3-19, Archie McLean 1-14, Patrick Hatcher 2-3, Will Young 3-21, Chris O'Brien 1-19.

SNCC 1864 won by 130 runs- 20 points, Newton 3.

On a sunny day, the 64's won the toss & chose to bat. The wicket was new & had some pace & bounce. Will Carr & Belinda Wewalage faced the seam of Wilkie & B Taylor. Will (19, 27b 4x4) hit the first two balls of the innings for 4 but at 35 he was caught at mid off by D Taylor off B Taylor.

There followed an excellent partnership of 86 between Belinda & Simon moving the field back & taking the singles. At 121 Simon (41,64b,2x4 1x6) was caught by Jones at long on. 6 runs later Belinda (58, 77b,3x4,2x6) was lbw to D Taylor's off spin, 127-3.

Will A & George ran well until at 192 Will (40,32b,2x4,2x6) was caught by Smith off Wilkie. George (30*) & Patrick (5*) saw the 64's to a challenging total of 207 after 40 overs.

Disciplined bowling was important & Josephine supplied it with three maidens in her 6 overs & 3 wickets. Lee (6) was lbw at 6. D Taylor (3) was caught by Will A at cover off Archie's left arm medium at 25 & 4 runs later Brown was lbw to Josephine.

This became 33-4 when Wilkie was caught by Simon at second slip off Josephine; 34-5 as Greensit was lbw to Patrick & 38-6 when Patrick bowled Smith (1).

Jones & Jeffrey fashioned a stand of 23 until at 61 Jones (12) was caught by Will C off Will Y at cover. At 63 Archbold (1) was caught by Archie at mid off, the bowler Charlie, 8 down. The final two wickets fell at 77 as the Wills combined to dismiss Jeffrey (23) & B Taylor (0) both caught at cover by Will C off Will Y.

A good team performance & an eventual comprehensive win involving contributions from all the younger players. The 64's now in a very creditable 5th position in WTL Division 1 on 92 points.
