SUCCESSFUL VP SPRING GOLF OUTING AT WINDY DUNSTANBURGH

Sunday 24th March 2024, 6 x3 balls from 1140.
A bracing breeze welcomed VP golfers to a packed Dunstanburgh GC on Sunday 24th March, the 26th outing since they began in 2010, the 6th at DCGC.
From 1030, amid catching up, the customary bacon rolls & coffee were consumed with relish. Chairman Howard Sidney-Wilmot was present to reminisce, before 6x3 balls set out heading into the wind at 1140.
James Brown, Graham Bruce & David Gorton led off followed by Nigel Campbell, Alan Dickinson & Mike Tait. Third away were Bill Kidd, Garrie Forster* & David Bolam*, then Mark Dolder*, Chris Harker & Peter Crane. Richard Miller, Phil Ewart, & Gavin Paton* were next & last away were Colin Belfield, James Southern & Duncan Stephen. We were delighted to welcome Garrie, David B, Mark & Gavin to their first outing.
The wind was challenging initially but eased a little in the afternoon, there was no rain & the sun shone !!
Counting the best two scores per hole, the totals at the close were well grouped, with winners on 74 points Mark, Chris & Peter. Second on 72 points were Bill, Garrie & David B, third on 68 points, James, Graham & David G: golf ball prizes - 3 each, 2 each, 1 each.
They were followed by Richard, Phil & Gavin on 66 points, with both Nigel, Alan & Mike; Colin, James & Duncan on 63.
The soup, sandwich & chips were warming. DDS offered most grateful thanks to everyone for being there, particularly the debutants; to Chris for booking the course well in advance, paying the deposit & sourcing the golf ball prizes & to DCGC for their hospitality. It was a very busy day!
The feedback suggested a most enjoyable day had been had by all. A good club occasion getting old friends together.
The Autumn outing in early October, possibly at Newbiggin, is being investigated. We will be in touch.
