BULLS FINISH NEPL PREMIER DIVISION RUNNERS UP AFTER DEFEAT OF FELLING
24th September 2024
20th Jul 2018
BOLDON 127-9 (20o) Forster 45, J Groombridge 27, M Groombridge 16: Hodnett 2-10, West 3-23, Doig 2-6, Ruddick 1-33, C Fletcher 1-30
SNCC 129-2 (9.4o) Doig 67, R Sidney-Wilmot 41.
Winning the toss, asking Boldon to bat & despite a good spell from Tom Hodnett, openers Forster & James Groombridge put on 51 for the first wicket before Groombridge was caught by West off C Fletcher. 64-2 became 77-3 & 91-4 when Forster was finally out for 45.
The innings imploded somewhat as West, Doig & the returning Hodnett took regular wickets helped by good catching & ground fielding. 127-9 seemed insufficient with a fast outfield & a 6 over power play.
And so it proved as Andrew Doig & Ryan Sidney-Wilmot took 46 from the first three overs clearing the ring at will. The pattern continued until at 76 Ryan Sid was caught for 41 (10x4). Alex Weetman joined Captain Andrew Doig & the pair saw 99 come up at the end of the power play. One particular flick over the furthest tree at deep, wide long on by Doig being particularly memorable to Peter Crane, a former Durham County player, now Treasurer at Boldon, who knows his cricket.
Doig continued to smash it before finally succumbing for an exciting 67, (13x4, 1x6) at 125 win the win 4 runs later after only 9.4 overs.
Finals Day is Sunday 12th August at a location to be decided. Tynemouth, Sacriston & Burnmoor or Washington, yet to play, make up the semi finalists.
