SNCCVP GOLFERS ENJOY NEWBIGGIN OUTING IN IDEAL CONDITIONS.
The 29th SNCC VP 2010 Golf outing visited Newbiggin on Sun 12th October. Fifteen enjoyed catching up amid the customary bacon rolls & coffee before setting out at 1100, as 5x3 balls, under no pressure of time & in ideal conditions - no wind, hard fairways & fast greens.
Apologies for absence were received from Bill Kidd, Andy Reeman, Graham & Viv Bruce, David Martin, Nigel Campbell, James Brown , Richard Miller, George Gray , James Southern & Huw McConnell.
Leading off were Colin Belfield, Paul Carding & Chris Harker. They were followed by Mike Tait, David Gorton & Alan Dickinson, the opening bowlers union. Scott Alexander, Will Alexander, on debut, & Peter Crane were next followed by Howard Sidney-Wilmot, also on debut, Mike Anderson & Phil Ewart; last away were Rob Peyton, Mark Dolder & Duncan Stephen.
Given the favourable conditions the scoring was exemplary, best two scores to count from 90% of handicap, 69-84 the range of final totals with winners Howard, Mike A & Phil on 84, closely followed by Mike T, David & Alan on 83, Colin, Paul & Chris on 78, Rob, Mark & Duncan on 76 & Scott, Will & Peter on 69.
After a nourishing bowl of soup & a sandwich, grateful thanks were given to all who had made the journey & played, but especially to Chris for organising the venue, paying the deposit & sourcing the golf ball prizes. The reminiscences flowed, the smiles & conviviality were tangible. The City of Newcastle Male Voice Choir may have some new recruits!!
The VP Spring 2026 outing will be to Dunstanburgh on Sun 29th March from 1030, tees from 1148. 13 of 18 places are already in the diary !
