Gateshead Fell won by 20 runs.

SN chose to field, MacLauchlin & McPate opened the attack against Wake & Goodliffe. The Bulls struck in over 2, McPate having Wake (1) very well caught by Ross Ward & two balls later, Goodliffe (0) equally well held by Jack Netts, 3-2.

The powerful Rutledge was joined by Wells & they gradually upped the rate punishing bad balls especially targetting the shorter leg side boundary towards the scorebox. Albie McPate bowled nicely, his 4 over spell 2-16, others suffered a little more, catches were not taken & Rutledge 100 (61b, 9x4, 3x6) & Wells 37* (44b,2x4) were able to put on 141 for the 3rd wicket before Rutledge was stumped by Fletcher off Khan in the last over. 149-3 , a challenge! The ground fielding mostly stood up to the test.

The SN innings lost Khan (5) at 6, Johnson (4) at 15, Ward (0) at 20, Netts (0) at 25 & Sahadevan (14) at 26. 29-5 after 8 overs, Aadesh batted creditably. Repair was undertaken by Jenny McDowell & Ru Fletcher until at 67 in the 14th McDowell (9) was bowled by Goodliffe. Fletcher accelearated, taking 22 in over 15, 11 off over 17 & 15 off over 19 but this brave effort ended with a catch by Lugsden off Goodliffe after 2 balls of the last over.

Ru 76 (46b, 6x4, 5x6), a valiant knock containing all the shots. Oliver Clark 7* at the close of 129-7, a defeat by 20 runs but some good bowling, fielding & catching to commend.

Grateful thanks to those who made themselves available at short notice amid current fixture congestion.

Duncan.
