RAIN SPOILS THE DAY WITH NEWCASTLE GAME EVENLY POISED.
Sat 7th June 2025: NEPL Div 2: SNCC v Newcastle (a) 105o, win/lose/draw.
Newcastle 75-4 (22.3o) Stephen Pinnington 22, Kieran Trevaskis 23, Levi Olver 12*: Allan Davidson 2-15, Will Young 1-40, Ru Fletcher 1-6 , Tom Jones 0-13.
Match abandoned - SNCC 6 points, Newcastle 5.
An overcast day & a green tinged Medicals wicket in Heaton saw the Bulls, Ben Sidney-Wilmot standing in as captain for David Edwards, win the toss & invite the hosts to bat. Humble & Pinnington faced the seam of Allan Davidson & Will Young.
Two maidens after an early boundary then Humble (4) drove Allan to mid on where Nick Tomlinson took a well struck drive at head height with aplomb, 5-1. Huxtable & Pinnington both took boundaries but after two consecutive maidens in overs 6 & 7, rain drove the players from the field, 13-1.
A resumption after 40 minutes saw the overs reduced to 53/48. After 11 overs the total had reached 19-1, 6 maidens among them, 3 each for Allan & Will. Pinnington & Huxtable took boundaries in over 12 off Will but in the 14th, after consecutive cover driven boundaries, Pinnington (22, 51b,5x4) skied Will towards mid wicket where George McConnell, retreating, took a good catch over his shoulder, 37-2.
In the next over, without addition, Huxtable pulled Davidson flat to mid wicket where George again obliged, 3 down. Trevaskis & Olver both struck boundaries & as the opening bowlers both bowled their maximum allocation of 9 overs without change & after 18 the score was 56-3.
Ru Fletcher began with a maiden & but in the next Trevaskis drove Tom Jones for 4 to mid wicket then 6 to long on. Another boundary to Trevaskis in the next but one ball later Ru found a perfect length to hit the top of off as Trevaskis (23, 20b 4x4 1x6) defended, 71-4.
At 1415, after two more overs, the heavens opened and the players left the field. The game was subsequently abandoned.
9 maidens in 22 overs, 5 to Allan, 3 to Will, 1 to Ru, showed good control, accuracy & movement off the pitch, the most consistent bowling performance to date in 2025. May there be more to come please.
Onward to Sat 14th June NEPL Div 2 SNCC v Whitburn (a) 1200, 105o, win/lose/draw. We hope you can be there to support the team.
