Midweek XI vs Oddfellows (14 8 ball overs)

Oddfellows 70-4

Midweek XI 71-2

The Midweek XI further improved their promotion prospects from the 4th Division with a straightforward victory away at Oddfellows on Monday evening.

Following on from last week’s comprehensive win against the same opposition at Roseworth Terrace, captain Tom Seymour successfully negotiated a 14 (8 ball) over a side duration before winning the toss and inviting the hosts to bat first.

As the mist and drizzle swirled around Prior’s Park, and under the watchful gaze of Lord Collingwood’s statue, the quartet of Midweek XI bowlers kept the home batsmen on a tight leash, restricting them to 70-4. Dave Cragg – once again – returned the best analysis of 2-19, also spurning an athletic caught and bowled opportunity.

In reply, despite the Oddfellow’s captain mixing up his bowling attack to the best of his and their ability, the Midweek XI’s openers Ru Fletcher and Tristan Mears-White - eventually caught on the midwicket boundary for an otherwise chanceless 27 - were largely untroubled. The new ball disappeared to all parts, along with a number of spare balls, as the total was chased down in the 6th over.

Ru hit at least six boundaries in his 40 not out. Ben Jones-Lee, a bundle of sartorially elegant effervescent energy throughout, struck the winning run.

The Midweek XI’s next fixture is on Thursday June 21st at Roseworth Terrace. 6pm start. All supporters welcome.
