SNCC won by 3 wickets.
A tense affair for a young side which ended triumphantly after 4 balls of the last over with a wide, but the scores had been tied by a glorious back foot, extra cover drive by Tom Oliver, under pressure, two balls earlier. In the visitors innings, Ben West's excellent 4-23 stood out.
B & W won the toss & chose to bat. A good opening partnership between Qasir & Ridley who withstood the seam of McConnell, Oliver T & Seymour until at 60 in the 9th Ben West's first, Ridley (38,31b 7x4) was caught by Joe Dresser. Three balls later, Ben caught & bowled Munirathnam (0) & in his next Nawsher (5) was bowled, 69-3.
In the 13th Qasir (17) was stumped by Leo Harper off Ben 71-4, 4 wickets in 3 overs for Ben !! Boundaries to Mowbray & Smith advanced the score in Ben's last & as Matt Williams & Tom Oliver concluded. In the 18th Mowbray (19) skied to point where Stephen Harper obliged & in the last Smith (16) was caught by Tom S at mid wicket off Williams. 13 wides the only blemish in 117-6.
Chasing, Tom Seymour & Stephen Harper faced Gedye & Qasir. A positive 53 without loss, including 16 (4,4,6,2) to Tom off Qasir in the 6th, but in the 9th Tom (29,21b 4x4,1x6) edged a cut to w/k Smith, 54-1. Then Richard Oliver (1) cut to point of Bhupal, 55-2.
Aadi Bethanabatla (2) was caught at backward square leg off Bhopal in the 10th but George McConnell hit back to back 6's in the same over. Another boundary to George (17, 6b,1x4,2x6) but he then edged Bikhan to w/k Smith 83-4.
Jack Seymour (2) had to retire not out having been struck by a bouncing return throw & then Stephen Harper (30,31b,5x4), a bedrock innings, was yorked by Hayes, 93-5 in the 13th, getting tense.
6 runs in three overs then in the 17th Leo Harper (2) attacking, was bowled by Quasir; Matt Williams hit 4 + 2 in the same over, 104-6. Tom Oliver struck a boundary but Matt (7) was bowled by Qasir in the 19th, 113-7. Tom Oliver's (13*,10b, 2x4) cover driven boundary from ball two of the last over tied the scores, the winning wide followed two balls later.
A very good win, great to see young players stepping up.
The midweek X1 face Newcastle City (h) on Thursday 29th May from 1800 20/20; we hope you can be there.
