         MIDWEEK BULLS GO TOP-DOIG STARS IN WIN OVER BACKWORTH.

Backworth 108-9 (20o) Josh Blake 19, Kai Pattison 14, Tom Davidson 16, Paul Hambling 13: George McConnell 1-23, Daylan Deen-Williams 0-15, Andrew Doig 4-4, Joe Dresser 0-22, Ben West 0-7, Jack Seymour 1-11, Will Oliver 2-8.

 

SNCC won by 39 runs - 10 points, Backworth 2.

 

The visitors won the toss & chose to field, Seymour & Doig faced the seam of Pattison & Davidson. 22-0 from 3 overs then acceleration as Davidson's second went for 22 (2x6 2x4). In the 5th Doig (18) missed a full toss & was  bowled by Morgan.

Tris Meears-White & Tom took the score on to 70 in the 9th when Tom 36, was caught on the square leg boundary by Hambling. Josh Blake's leg breaks accounted for Joseph Dresser (9) in the 11th, caught in the ring. At 101 in the 14th Stephen Harper (6) was caught at mid wicket off Joel Toft.

Tris & Will Oliver pushed on against the spin of Joel Toft & Hambling. Will (10) was lbw to Hambling in the 19th but Tris remained unbeaten on 42 & George 5* as the innings closed at 147-5.

In reply J Toft & J Blake faced the seam of George McConnell & Daylan Deen-Williams. At 20 in the third Toft (10) was bowled by George. 47-1 at the end of the 5th but then in the 6th, Andy Doig, seam up & swinging in, accounted for Blake (19) bowled & Robson (0) lbw 2 balls later.

A repeat in over 8 as M Blake (0) was bowled & Evans (0) run out after a dropped chance by w/k Leo Harper was redeemed by him throwing down the bowler's stumps ! 60-5.

In the 10th Pattison (14) was bowled by Doig, swinging it in from a good length, 66-6. 4-4 from 3 overs for Andy, a match defining spell. As Ben West bowled three tidy overs for 7, including a maiden, Davidson (16) & Hambling (13) took the total to 90 in the 17th when Davidson drove Jack Seymour hard to cover where Dad Tom took the catch in his midriff.

Hambling (13) succumbed, bowled by Will Oliver in the 18th & C Toft (7) followed likewise at 108 in the last, 9 down.

This win takes the Bulls top by three points from Ashington who were defeated.

 

Onward to the semi final of the Ian Appleby Cup on Wed 9th July v Newcastle City & then 4 more games against the top 4 teams, Bomarsund (10/7), Newcastle City (a), Ashington (h) & Warkworth (h) to conclude the season.
