MIDWEEK BULLS FALL JUST SHORT AT WARKWORTH.

Thurs 12th June 2025: NTCL Midweek Open League.

                                        SNCC v Warkworth (a) 20/20

Warkworth 150-3 (20o) Stephen Boyd 57, Luke McCurley 66: George McConnell 0-36, Matt Williams 0-31, David Cragg 1-31, Will Oliver 0-27, Tom Seymour 1-17.

SNCC 146-5 (20o) Tom Seymour 73, Will Oliver 9, Stephen Harper 10, George McConnell 15, Richard Oliver 10*, Matt Williams 6*: Luke Currie 1-25, Nancy Moody 0-23, Ben Briggs 3-26, Luke McCurley 0-26, Rhys James 0-20, Stephen Boyd 1-11.

Warkworth won by 4 runs- 9 points, SNCC 2.

The home team chose to bat, Stephen Boyd, once of SNCC 1st X1 in 2000, & Luke McCurley faced the seam of George McConnell & Matt Williams. Variations of length were ruthlessly exploited by both batters as the total rose to 120 without loss after only 13 overs.

Under pressure from the onslaught the Bulls were perhaps understandably somewhat lacking in energy & unable to hit consistently good lengths & lines. McCurley was first to go edging David Cragg to w/k Stephen Harper for 66 (42b, 9x4, 2x6).

Stephen Boyd followed lbw to Tom for 57 (46b, 6x4 1x6) mostly hit straight as a proper batter would, 130-2. Richard Whittle (2) was run out, beaten by a quick throw from Aadi at point to the w/k; Currie (8*) & Briggs (4*) concluded the innings at 150-3.

Tom Seymour & Will Oliver faced the gentle medium of Luke Currie & Nancy Moody. Tom's first three scoring shots towards the castle were 6,6,4. At 30 in the 3rd Will (9) mowing, was bowled by Currie. Stephen Harper & Tom built a partnership of 46 until at 76 Stephen became unbalanced in attempting to attack & was bowled by a Briggs leg break, 76-2.

George struck powerfully, 1x6 1x4 in his 12 balls but succumbed to an outstanding one handed catch on the boundary off Briggs at 100, 3 down. Aadi found it difficult to get the ball away, especially when first team quick James entered the attack, & eventually swatted to mid wicket to be caught for 0 (10b), 115-4.

It needed Tom to remain but Boyd joined the attack & Tom (73, 81b, 5x4, 4x6) who had hit straight with power, then edged a good one from Boyd to w/k Douglas at 125.

Richard Oliver (8*) & Matt Williams (6*) edged rapid deliveries but the equation became 10 from two balls in the last over. A boundary & a two were not quite enough. So close, a few more enterprising singles would have done it, as would not conceding 4 wides.

Onward to Thursday 19th June SNCC v Stobswood (h) 1800 20/20. Do come along, excitement is guaranteed.
