Angus Southern, deputising for David Edwards as skipper, won the toss & chose to bat. The wicket, pitched towards the Clubhouse side, was dry & the outfield fast. Nick Tomlinson & Sam Ewart faced the seam of Richard Hay & Neil Bennett.

A sparkling opening partnership of 117 ensued with only 1 maiden over as both Nick & Sam rotated well & punished the bad ball. Sam reached 50* in the 17th over which included 3x6 & 4x4 pulled onto & over the Clubhouse, straight & to mid wicket. Nick profited off his legs until at 51 (79b, 6x4) he drove to short mid wicket to be caught by Smith off Noah Rae(rm)

A subsequent partnership of 33 ended when Jan (11) stroked to backward point but the single was refused & Jan could not retreat in time to beat the throw from Emily Whiting, 150-2.

Commendably, Andrew Smith bowled 15 overs straight through, going wicketless for only 59. Rae & Whiting had spells as Angus & Sam continued to progress sensibly at 5 runs per over. A light drizzle began but the players stayed on. Sam  reached102* with a boundary off Bennett in the 38th. Then two expensive overs 40 & 42 from Patrick Hallam during which Angus reached 50*.

At 257 in Graeme Hallam's third, the partnership of 107 ended when Angus (55, 47b, 6x4) drove to long off where the catch was taken by Smith moving in. A further 6 to Sam & with a declaration in mind, the rate increased as Andrew Doig joined Sam. In coming back for a second to the cover boundary, Sam's enterprising innings ended, run out at the non striker's end. A magnificent 130 (120b, 11x4, 4x6) responsibly paced with clean, straight hitting & pulling with power over the legside, 276-4.

In the frenetic last 2 overs three wickets fell. George McConnell (2) caught at mid wicket off Hay, Ru (1) at point by Whiting & finally Andrew Doig (21) from the last ball of the innings, dragging on to G Hallam who finished with 4 wickets, Tom Jones 1*.

290-7 declared after 47 overs, a commanding total, Tynemouth would have 58 to bat, then reduced to 48 after a 30 minute rain break.  George Stewart & Andrew Smith faced the seam of Ben Hobbs & Danny Collins. At 20 in the 7th Stewart (5) was caught by George at mid wicket.

Drizzle returned but not heavily, Smith & Whiting pushed the score on to 43 in the 12th. Tom Jones (lb) began a spell & in his second Smith (31, 42b, 4x4) edged to w/k Sam, 51-2. In the next, Will Young's second, Whiting 17 ( 25b, 4x4), who had batted nicely, aimed to leg but top edged & was c & b by Will. 55-3.

The drizzle became heavier & after umpire consultation, the batting side were happier to leave the field after16.3 overs. Although the conditions improved the drizzle persisted &, after waiting, the umpires abandoned the game.
