Electing to bat the Academy set off smartly as George McConnell & Jacob McCord faced the seam of Moore & Elphick. At 26 in the 8th George's (9) pick up was caught by Moore at fine leg off Elphick. There followed an enterprising partnership of 80 between Jacob & Will Carr which featured 13x4, the 100 coming up in the 20th over.
At 106 in the 21st Jacob (54, 60b, 10x4) edged the seam of Gibson to w/k Hall. A splendid innings hitting through the covers & to mid wicket. Jacques Graham & Will took the score to 148 in the 27th when Jacques (14) was bowled by Gibson.
Will continued until at 167 in the 31st over, he aimed a big drive at Prescott & was bowled. 76runs , (75b,13x4) cutting, driving through the covers & hitting on the leg side, an outstanding display.
Attacking instincts saw the loss of 3 wickets in consecutive overs as Ben Sid (11), Finlay (1) & Gregor(5) succumbed, 174-7 in the 34th. But Joe Dresser hit 5x4 in 19 balls &, although Missy (7) was caught at cover at 186 in the 37th, the total rose to 219 at the close with Joe 30* & Will Young 7*.
Newcastle's reply saw Safi & Wilson face the seam of Finlay Pearce & Will Young. After 3 maidens in the first 4 overs, at 8 in the 5th Safi (8) was caught by Gregor off Finlay. Wilson & Amin then played positively & the score rose to 40 after 10 overs.
Missy & David Cragg began spells & it was Missy in her second over who persuaded Amin to drill to long off where Gregor took a very good catch to prevent a 6, 50-2. At 75 in the 12th Hall (12) drove David Cragg to point where Will Carr took the catch. 80 for 3 at half way.
Joe Dresser began a spell in the 23rd & took wickets in each of his first two overs. Gibson (4) caught by Finlay at mid wicket & Wilson (36, 59b, 4x4) caught and bowled by one that stopped a bit, 97-5. Jacques trapped Moore (2) lbw sweeping in the 28th a maiden over.
122-6 after 30 & the end came quickly as Joe had Johnson (5) caught by Jacob close to the bat, & Gregor's leg breaks persuaded Arulanantham (0) to advance & miss to be stumped by Ben & then Elphick (0) was caught by Joe at short cover, 9 down.
Prescott (20) had resisted but at 128 he was caught by Joe, on the leg side, off Finlay. A comprehensive third win for the Academy, third place in Sunday First Division with a game in hand on leaders Sacriston.
