CRICKET COACHING IS BACK

9th Jun 2020

We are delighted that we are now able to offer summer cricket coaching to players from our U11 age group and over. We are sure that you have been as keen as we have to see some cricket played. The English Cricket Board has issued guidance on recreational cricket that now allows us to run our summer training programmes – with the hope that the season may well be extended to late September 2020 and that some matches may be possible in coming weeks. As you will appreciate, this guidance is evolving all the time and we are monitoring the situation closely and will do everything we can as a Club to give members the fullest opportunities possible this season.

Our outdoor training nets have been available to last season’s members for the last few weeks and it has been great to see so many making use of them. In addition to these netting facilities, we are now able to offer coached training sessions to Senior Men and Women members and to Junior Members in the U11 age group and above. These sessions will differ from those offered in normal times – they will be in smaller groups, each limited to 5 players plus a coach - given the need to observe social distancing. Training sessions will start week commencing 15 June 2020. To sign up for these sessions you need to take out or renew your membership for 2020. Given the current circumstances, we have reduced all playing membership fees for this year by 50%. For further details on training sessions and to sign up as a member please click HERE

We appreciate, however, that these are challenging times for many families and businesses. Whilst our training sessions and outdoor training nets and facilities are available exclusively to members (at reduced fees this year), it is important to us that all of our former members are able to continue to participate. If you are in a position that makes joining again this year prohibitive, do please contact me at alan.fletcher@southnorth.co.uk in confidence and we will do whatever we can to support all of our Club community in making the most of the cricketing opportunities available at our Club this summer.

As a Club we strive to provide outstanding training and development facilities to our members and the local community. Like many businesses our income has been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic – our membership fees have been reduced, our bar and function suite and indoor training facilities have remained closed, the annual Durham match has been cancelled and we have had to postpone all our spring and autumn events which historically have funded a lot of our activity. We will continue to take every step we can to ensure that our Club continues to offer cricketing opportunities to the community but we are facing a significant shortfall in income for this season and this is likely to result in us having to scale back our men's, women's and junior offerings in the winter and coming seasons. We are conscious that there are many demands on families in these difficult times but if any of you are in a position to support these activities then you can make a Donation HERE. We are appreciative of any support you are able to give us at this time.
