SNCC won by 5 wickets - 8 points, Bomarsund 3.

Losing the toss for the tenth time in 2025, Tom was not unhappy that Bomarsund chose to bat on a flat wicket at Roseworth Terrace. The evening was warm, the BBQ starting to sizzle. Gardiner & Breeze faced the right arm seam of Matt Williams & 13 year old Lucas Collins.

In the third over Breeze (11) edged Matt to w/k Stephen Harper, 17-1. There followed a splendid  partnership of 105 between Gardiner (64, 46b, 8x4,3x6) & Haig (61*, 45b, 9x4 1x6) both driving down the ground & punishing length balls to all parts. Matt, Lucas, Joseph, Danny  & Will all suffered, Tom less so. A couple of chances went awry & some hits into the deep were allowed to bounce but the fielding did not wilt.

57-1 after 6 overs became 114-1 after 12. A fine edge to w/k Stephen went undetected & then Tom & Will bowled the last 6 overs. In the 14th Gardiner was bowled by Will for 64, 122-2. A final flourish saw 18 runs from the last two overs with the visitors finishing on a formidable 142-2.

A chance for others to bat so Will & Richard Oliver opened against the seam of Pringle & Dreyer. Richard Oliver (5) skied Dreyer to square leg in the second over, 8-1. Matt & Will scored freely until Matt (11) was lbw to Pringle in the 5th over, 39-2. Will & Danny  pushed on, dot balls a rarity, Pringle conceding 16 in over 7, 13 of them to Will. Then as change bowlers Breeze & Nagarajan took up the attack, the total rose to 96 after 10 overs, on target.

Will (46, 31b,7x4), who driven & cut positively, suffered a somewhat bizarre dismissal in over 11 as the short pitched delivery somehow found its way to bowl him ! 99-3 a very good partnership of 60 with Danny. Joe entered & immediately struck 2,4,4 to maintain the momentum.

117-3 after 12 overs & then Danny struck another 6 to mid wicket. Joe (17) was run out by a direct hit to the bowler's end in the same over, 120-4. Tom entered & struck Mamtaz for 10 in 4 balls including a 6 over long off before being bowled next ball, 139-5.

The contest concluded in unusual fashion as the next ball  eluded the w/k & hit the helmet behind him, conceding 5 runs & enabling the winning total, 144-5. Danny 41* (22b, 2x4 2x6) an excellent innings for his team.

David Cook (NTCL midweek organiser) presented the trophy to Tom outlining that the Bulls had been the best team in the Open League for almost all of the season losing only one league match & scoring many runs.

In reply Tom thanked the players young & old for their commitment, Tim Johnson for being the Bulls regular umpire, the scorers, Bill Kidd for the home refreshments provided, wishing him a speedy recovery from his recent operation & Richard & Olivia Miller for the night's sizzling barbeque.

A squad photograph with the trophy was taken, food consumed & bonhomie abounded. A first trophy of the season for SNCC. Bravo! We must continue.

Banks Bowl 100 finals day Sun 24th August is at SNCC : SN v Newcastle (1030) the first game followed by CLS v Hetton Lyons (1330).  Final being played at (1630). We hope you can be there to cheer the Bulls on.
