The second X1 continued their run of good form with a comprehensive win over Sacriston in round 1 of the Roseworth Trophy 2024. The visitors suffered some deja vu as Ru Fletcher & Alex Charnley put together an opening partnership of 158 to add to the 240 against the same opposition just 5 days earlier.
Ru 109 (52b, 15x4, 4x6) hitting to all parts & Alex 55 (42b, 7x4) dominated the youthful, right arm seam Sacriston attack. Fourth change Jack Rye picked up two wickets towards the end as David Edwards 27* & Nathan Gough 8* saw the total to a commanding 215-2 after 20 overs.
In reply Sacriston lost Brown (3) bowled by Allan & Small (3) caught by George off Lunny early, but some resistance from Hubber (24), Rye (17), Lumley (15*) & Bulmer (17) saw the total rise slowly.
Two wickets each for Lunny & Nathan, one on his 2nd X1 debut for Will Young, one for Allan & one for Alex as occasional bowlers Alex W, Angus & David were given an opportunity to twirl. Sacriston 86-7 at the end of 20 overs, there will be tougher challenges ahead!

An excellent 5 fer for Gavin, against his old club, in his 9th over for 14 runs. In his 3rd over, the 20th, Will Young persauded Nicholls to cut to point where George took a good low catch. George then began a spell from the Park end & Will swopped to the Grove.
