BULLS TRIUMPH IN BANKS BOWL 100 AGAINST EPPLETON & TYNEDALE.
Sun 29th June 2025: Banks Bowl Group D: SNCC/Eppleton/Tynedale.
Eppleton 102-8 (100b) Braydn Davies 29*, Joe McGann 10, Anthony Beston 19: Danny Collins 1-12, Will Young 3-8, George McConnell 1-19, Joseph Dresser 1-19, Tom Oliver 1-11, Elliott Mee 1-24.
SNCC 103-3 (78b) Andrew Doig 72* Jan Ozmen 21*: Joe Bute 0-21, Calum Jefferson 1-11, Braydn Davis 0-24, Tyler Beston 0-26, Jack Naunton 0-20.
SNCC won by 7 wickets.
The hosts were invited to field. The wicket was dry. 20 sets of 5 balls began with Danny Collins & Will Young bowling 10 balls each, 14 the score but in the 5th set, Bute (5) was caught by Will off Danny.
In the next set bowled by George, Blacklock (8) edged to w/k Andrew Doig, & in the next two wickets for Will as first Jefferson (0) was caught by Angus & then T Beston (0) by Danny, 18-4 after 35 balls.
At 28 Johnson (6) was caught by Doig off Tom Oliver, 5 down after 50 balls. Joe Dresser, George & Elliott Mee bowled the next 7 sets & in his first Elliott's leg spin gained an lbw verdict against Gibson (7), 52-6.
At 66 McGann (10) was bowled by Joseph. The rate increased as Davis 29* attacked but in the last set A Beston (19) edged to Doig off Will, 102-8 after 100 balls.
Will 3-8, Danny 1-12, George 1-19, Joe 1-19 all off 20 balls, Tom 1-11 off 5 & Elliott, impressively, 1-24 off 15, in sets 13,14 &17.
In reply Angus Southern & Jacob McCord faced Bute & Jefferson. Jacob (1) was runout in the first set, Angus (1) succumbed in the third caught by Bute & in the 4th Ben (1) was run out, 20-3 after 20 balls.
There followed a magnificent partnership of 83 between Andrew Doig 72* (41b, 6x4, 3x6) & Jan Ozmen 21* (26b, 3x4) including 20 from Naunton's 10th set, 75-3 after 50 balls. The winning boundary came after 78 balls. Andy has found his mojo in the last two weeks hitting the ball as cleanly as of yore. Jan busy & eager to run as ever, 19 singles in this match winning partnership on a tricky pitch with variable bounce & taking spin.
SNCC v Tynedale (second match)
SNCC 111-8 (100b) Andrew Doig 10, Ben Hobbs 13, Jan Ozmen 22, Danny Collins 38*: James Martin-Dobson 1-18, Craig Barber 3-19, Max Gradwell 0-30, Seth Robbie 3-12, Brian Borini 1-27.
Tynedale 100-3 (100b) James Craig 32*, Craig Barber 31*: Will Young 1-10, George McConnell 0-22, Joseph Dresser 1-13, Danny Collins 1-26, Elliott Mee 0-16.
SNCC won by 11 runs.
The Bulls were invited to bat against Tynedale who had just lost to Eppleton. Another difficult start as Angus (1) was caught by Robbie off Martin-Dobson in the first set, 2-1.
Two boundaries off Barber to Andy but in the next Andy (10) caught off Barber & Jacob stumped 2 balls later, 18-3. In sets 7 & 8 two more wickets as Ben (13) was stumped off Robbie & George (5) followed suit, 39-5, in a hole!
Then Danny Collins & Jan Ozmen to the rescue with a most responsible partnership of 62, Danny hitting strongly straight & through mid wicket, Jan rotating well. At 101 in the 18th set Jan 22 was c&b by B Borini. In the next Joseph (0) perished bowled by Robbie & in the last Will (0) was c&b by Barber, the slow bowlers taking 6 wickets. Danny a very good 38*- would the total be enough ?
Will & George bowled the first 4 sets, 21-0.In set5 Nevin (12) was caught by Ben juggling at cover, 26-1. There followed a rare beast in 100 matches, a MAIDEN to Joseph!! In the 10th set, Odd (9) was stumped by Andy, standing up off Danny, as he raised a heel ! Masterful ! 39-2.
In set 10 Robbie (2) played on to Joseph, 44-3. Surprisingly no other wicket fell as Danny, Elliott & Joseph bowled sets 11-16 when the total was 85. Elliott bowling his leg breaks splendidly on a turning pitch, with some uneven bounce conceded only 16 from his 20 balls, supporting the efforts of Joe,13 from his 20, George 22 from 20,Danny 26 from 20 & Will an impressive 10 from 20.
The last 5 SN sets conceded only 7, 5, 3, 3 & 4, Craig 32* & Barber 31* but to no avail, a very good Bulls win.
Onward to the 100Banks Bowl ¼ final on Fri 8th August Benwell Hill (a) 1800.
