Holiday absences gave 1st X1 opportunities to Andy Doig, Angus Southern, Jan Ozmen, Danny Collins & Jacques Graham in this second match in group F of the Banks Salver. On a sunny evening the Bulls were invited to bat, Hewi & Sol faced the spin of Crawshaw & seam of Whitfield.

Attacking intent led to the loss of 4 early wickets as Sol (6) was bowled by Oswell, Hewi (15) by Lumsden, both Sam (2) & Angus (1) caught off Crawshaw, 28-4 after 30 balls. Andy (2) was bowled by Ulhaq, 33-5 after 40 balls including 25 of spin.

David & Gavin fashioned a handy partnership of 36 until David (25, 28b, 2x4 1x6) edged a steer to w/k Oswell off Crawshaw's slow left arm. 69-6. Gav & Cody pressed but at 89 Cody (7) was caught off M Oswell. Then, in the last set, having launched Lumsden straight for 6 in set 18, Gav (28, 29b, 1x4,1x6) was caught, 96-8; probably not enough.

John Oswell & Ross Whitfield faced the seam of Hoffmeister & Paton & then Collins. In set 4 Oswell (13) was caught by Sol at cover off Danny, 15-1. Birty, Andy & Jacques bowled 10 balls each conceding 32 but no breakthrough came until set 13 when Cody had Crawshaw (19) caught by Angus at cover, 67-2.

Lumsden joined Whitfield & despite three tight overs from Danny & Andy conceding only 6, took the score to 83 in the 16th set when Whitfield (45) was caught by Angus off Andy Doig, a first 1st X1 wicket ! Lumsden struck 2x4 in the 18th & 19th sets to help the home side prevail on 97 -3 after 92 balls. The fielding was good but the clatter of early wickets saw a below par total despite the efforts of David & Gavin.

Thus ends the Bulls 1st X1 cup exploits in 2025. Quite a few highs, losing finalists in a tense T20 & national ¼ finalists, coming so close to a semi final place, but it was not to be.

Got to move on to Sat 2nd Aug; NEPL Premier Div; SNCC v Sunderland 110o win/lose/draw from 1130.

We hope you were there to see the Bulls bounce back !

Duncan.
