On a sunny day at Ashbrooke the Bulls invited the home team to bat. Greg Applegarth & Shamsur Oraikhil faced the seam of Jonny Wightman (Rugby stand) & Cody Hoffmeister (Pavilion).
No singles but boundaries in overs 2,3,4, & as Oli McGee entered the attack also in 6 & 7. The total had reached 30 in the 9th with a Wightman maiden & in the 10th Oraikhil (8) sweeping, was lbw to McGee, 30-1. Wighters 8 overs for only 13, he is bowling well.
Two more maidens followed then Nunn (0) edged a good delivery by Wightman to w/k Rob Peyton, 35-2 after 13 overs. Applegarth took a liking to the leg spin of Jones hitting 2x4 & 1x6, Potts also took advantage such that the total rose to 68 after 22 when Nathan Gough struck in his first over having a resilient Applegarth (43, 66b,5x4 1x6) edging head high to be caught by Birty at slip, 83-3.
Two overs later Hemat (0) on the back foot, was lbw to McGee, 86-4. Potts & Race hit boundaries but the score rose only slowly as Nathan & Birty combined. Race (7) succumbed in the 31st aiming a drive off Nathan which was caught by Hewi at backward point. In the next over Potts (25, 58b, 4x4) missed a sweep & was lbw to Birty, 100-6.
4 wickets then fell in 4 overs as first Collins(4) was bowled off stump by Birty, Roddam (0) was bowled by a yorker from Cody,113-8. Yaqoob (0) drove firmly back to Oli who caught it head high & finally Gittens (9) played & missed but lifted a foot to Jones & was smartly stumped by Rob Peyton as he did so, 114 all out in 40.4 overs.
The Bulls reply was emphatic, racing to a 10 wicket victory in only 14.2 overs as both Sam Ewart (48*, 46b, 7x4,1x6) & Sol Bell (58*, 40b, 9x4) attacked variations of length & width mercilessly, Sol's on drive working especially smoothly, Sam pulling & driving freely.
The Bulls winning run continues but there are tougher games to come.
