NTCL MIDWEEK OPEN LEAGUE: TUES 4TH MAY 2025: ROUND 3

Bomarsund 62-8 (16o) Liam Haig 13, Ryan Pringle 18: Danny Collins 3-17, George McConnell 2-22, Lucas Collins 3-7, Leo Harper 0-12, Will Oliver 0-2.

SNCC won by 55 runs- 9 points, Bomarsund 1.

A third triumph for the midweek team led on this occasion by Simon West, deputising for Tom Seymour. Winning the toss the Bulls chose to bat. Will Oliver & Tris Meears-White faced Liam Haig & Ryan Thain, both well known Bomarsund family names who opened the batting with distinction in their 1970's heyday.

Early boundaries & extras, inconsistent bounce but also wickets as Will Oliver (4,1x4) was bowled by Haig & Tris (8,1x4)) caught by w/k Gardner, also off Haig, 22-2. Stephen Harper & U14 Ben West then put together a partnership of 40 before Stephen, stroking boundaries on both sides of the wicket, (23, 5x4) was bowled by Hancock (ob). Ben continued, driving through the covers, in the company of George McConnell, before he was bowled by Pringle for 23 (3x4).

George, driving a sumptuous 6 over extra cover & pulling miles over mid wicket to the longest part of the ground, eventually fell to the last ball of the innings, run out for 34 (4x4,2x6) an explosive knock, 117-5 after 16 overs, Leo Harper (3*), a defendable total.

Bomarsund's reply saw Dan Robinson & Alex Breeze face the left arm seam of Danny Collins & George McConnell. Both bowled 4 overs, Breeze (1) caught nonchalantly by Tris at backward point off Danny then Robinson (2) caught by Richard Oliver at mid wicket off George.

Mumtaz (0) was defeated by a swinging delivery from Danny & Parupudi (6) suffered a similar fate. Haig (13, 3x4) resisted until George found a very good one from round the wicket that straightened to take an edge onto off stump.

U13 Lucas Collins (rm) & U14 Leo Harper (rm) took up the attack. In his 4 overs Lucas showed excellent control,  bowling stump to stump & was rewarded with three wickets. Slater (4) was bowled, Pringle (18, 2x4) advanced & missed to be stumped by w/k Stephen Harper & then Hancock (0) skied for George to hold the catch at short extra.

Leo bowled 3 overs on a good line & Will Oliver (rm) had one over to finish the innings. The fielding was good & a positive attitude prevailed which was heartening.

Onward to the next midweek league match which is on Thurs 22nd May SNCC v Benwell & Walbottle (h) 1800 20/20. We hope you can be there to cheer the team on.

Duncan.
