A warm evening at Roseworth Terrace, David Edwards, Angus Southern & Ben Sidney-Wilmot made their debuts in the TCB. Lanchester won the toss & chose to bat. Meadows & Dass faced the seam of Wightman & sla of Birtwisle. Fresh from cruising Jonny started with a maiden. In the second on strike Meadows (1) set off but sent back failed to beat the direct hit to the w/k by Jonny from backward point, 2-1

Dass & McCabe pushed the score along, 55-1 after 10 overs, Dass (30*) swung Birty to mid wicket & McCabe (17*) drove through cover & mid wicket, Wighters bowled 4, Birty 3, Tom Jones 2 & Gav 1.

Dass hit Gav for 2x4 & swung a Jones full toss for a mid wicket maximum to get to 54* at the end o the 13th.  In Nathan's first a tickle down the legside was acrobatically taken by w/k Ben Sid, diving a long way to his left, to catch Dass (58), 87-2.

McPhail (2) succumbed two overs later failing to beat Sol's throw from long off as he returned for 2, 94-3. In the 18th two wickets as McCabe (30) offered a catch to mid wicket taken by Daid Edwards & then Brinton(1) was caught & bowled by Tom, 104-5 with two overs to go.

Renton then showed intent striking 1x4 & 3x6 as Oli & Nathan suffered raising the final score to a competitive 137-5, Renton 27*, captain Kieron Taylor 7*. A couple of boundary catches not taken but a superb diving stop by at short fine leg by Gavin prevented another 3 runs.

In reply Sol & Jonny faced the seam of Taylor (Park) & Dass (Grove) A slash for 4 then Jonny (4) drove to mid off where Somersall took the catch, 4-1 after 4 balls. David Edwards driving & cutting through the offside & Sol Bell took the score to 37 at the end of the 5th.

Callum Barnes (sla) then bowled 5 overs, 1 maiden, 3-16 in a commendably accurate spell from the Park end. In his first Sol (10) drove back to be caught & bowled then the left handed Tom (1) attempted a reverse sweep only to be caught at point by Renton, 43-3.

As Barnes showed good control, Renton (rm) bowled overs 8,10 &12 which were dispatched for 38. David & Nathan both driving impressively through the off side, both striking 6's over extra cover to the Roseworth Terrace gate. In over 13 Barnes bowled a wicket maiden as Goughy (21,13b,1x4 1x6) another innings of intent, drove high to long on where Taylor took the catch.

David reached a sublime 50* (8x4,1x6) cutting Dass for 4 to point. The score after Barnes's last, the 15th, was 100-4. Das concede 15 in the 16th as David hooked for 4 & cut gloriously over backward point for 6 to the Pavilion, 115-4.

Angus (8) scampered but edged Renton, now from the Park end, to w/k Brinton at 125 in the 17th. Taylor returned to bowl the 18th conceding 8 & as Oli (2*) showed intent, it was left to David to drive Renton over mid off for the winning boundary from ball 2 of the 19th.

A superb innings from David 78* (56b, 11x4, 2x6) driving imperiously & forcing off the back foot through the offside against the seamers & sensibly eschewing risk against the accurate sla of Barnes.

Onward to the TCB ¼ final on Wed 2nd July (h) against opponents yet to be confirmed. We must continue !

Duncan.
