Bad day at the office for the 1864s

27th May 2019

A disappointing batting performance by the 1864s after winning the toss and choosing to bat. Ducks for batsmen 2, 3 and 4 did not help the cause!! At least batsman 5 scored 1. Michael Harbottle in his first outing of the season looked capable of steadying the ship but fell victim to an LBW decision that had even the Newton players puzzled. The bowler stifled his appeal and no other fielder reacted. But the finger of doom was raised in an instant.

At 11 for 4 in the 9th over it was an uphill battle. The 1864s limped to 66 all out in the 30th over. Well done to Patrick Hatcher for a top score of 16. Alan Roskilly can be pleased with his contribution of 10 batting at 10. No batting points.

Steady rain during the tea interval looked as if it might save the 1864s but the weather eventually relented. Newton got off to a bad start and were 5 for 3 in the 5th over. But they dug in and ended up winning by 6 wickets in the 18th over.

A day to forget. Next game is on 1 June at Matfen against the 2018 league winners Humshaugh.
