After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first following overnight rain, Tynemouth made a solid if slow start until a brilliant direct hit from Bobby Green ran out Hamilton with the score on 33. Calum Fletcher (2-17) bowled quickly and took two wickets to reduce Tynemouth to 49-3 at drinks. Fletcher then ran Hallam out with a powerful throw from deep cover, and Ben Sidney-Wilmot followed up by dismissing the dangerous Snowdon (32) out as they fell to 90-5. Another outstanding piece of fielding from Guy Johnson ran out Swaddle-Scott (6), before captain Ru Fletcher (3-16) brought himself for the final few overs as Tynemouth closed on a respectable 126-9.
South North suffered a terrible start as they fell to 3-2 following the early dismissals of Green (2) and Johnson (0), before Calum Fletcher (6) was caught at cover with the score at 24-3. This brought Cameron Skinner and Ben Sidney-Wilmot together and the pair put on 76 before Skinner (49) ran himself out at 100-4. This sparked a classic South North collapse as Dormer (2), Sidney-Wilmot (40), Varley (0), Jennings (0) and Kanakala (0) all came and went as the academy collapsed to 113-9, still 14 short of victory. Alan Roskilly (5*) joined captain Ru Fletcher (17*) at the crease as Fletcher farmed the strike to get within two of the target. With the field in close, Roskilly got down on one knee and slog swept a one bounce four over midwicket to win the game.
The academy sit two points behind Benwell Hill in second place and travel to Gateshead Fell on 17 June.
