With the forecast uncertain, the visitors asked their hosts to bat. Wiil Young (Pavilion) & George McConnell (Wood) opened the bowling against Downey & Hearn.
5 wides in the first two overs but a maiden in over 3 to Will then 4 wickets in two overs as first Will bowled Downey (7) off stump & three balls later Shields edged for Angus at first slip to take a good low catch to his right in two hands.
One over later George tempted Hearn to pull & Joe Dresser took a neat catch at mid wicket. Next ball McGill (0) defending, was bowled, 21-4. In the 11th Middleton (9) pulled Will to deep mid wicket where Joe obliged again, 36-5. It seemed that Will was moving the ball a little both ways which is clearly extremely useful.
Sam Lee (rm) & Archit Upadhye (lb) bowled the next 8 overs & the score rose slowly to 60 as both concluded with maidens. In over 21, Joe Dresser's first, Fowler (7) pulled to deep square leg where Will took the catch, 50-6.
Morgan (28) stroked boundaries off Joe & Archit but in over 28 succumbed, as he advanced to Archit, missed & was bowled,77-7. The end came quickly. Hugill (6) was bowled leg stump by Will & then one over later George defeated the defensive pushes of Nicholson (0) & Smith (0) bowling both, 77 all out.
Angus Southern & Ben Hobbs faced the right arm seam of Smith & Morgan. At 14 in the 4th Ben (7) top edged Morgan & was caught at mid on. Next ball Matthew Rathbone pushed forward, both bat & pad seemed to be involved but the decision went with pad first, so lbw 0, 14-2.
Olly stroked 2x2 in over 5 & Angus 4,6,6 off Smith then 6,4,1 off Morgan lofting over mid on & mid wicket & cutting past backward point. In over 9 Angus (38,32b, 3x4, 3x6) drove to mid wicket where McGill took the catch,51-3.
Barnes & McGill took up the attack but Olly, guiding fine or Sam driving down the ground over mid & mid on, saw the Bulls home comfortably by 7 wickets after 3 balls of the 14th over, Olly 23* (39b, 2x4), Sam 10* (4b 2x4). A good win for a team including 7 juniors, 3x U17, 3xU15, 1xU13. The future is important to SNCC.
The Bulls Academy now in joint second place in NEPL Sunday First Division on 134 points having played two less than leaders CLS on 174. Tougher tests await beginning on Sun 22nd June with a visit to Chester-le-Street (a) 1330 40/40. We hope you can be there to cheer the team on.
