Sometimes miracles happen & one did on Sunday 1st August at Jesmond as a record 10th wicket partnership of 78* in c 35 minutes between Captain, Ross Ward, batting at 9 & Alan Roskilly at 11, saw the SN Academy team move thrillingly from 128-9 to 206-9 to defeat Newcastle at Jesmond by one wicket in 37.2 overs. Those watching were on edge ! "Top entertainment for the spectators ".

SNCC 206-9 (37.2o) Eashan Ragbir 43, Sam Ewart 15, Angus Southern 33, Aadesh Sahadevan 22, Ross Ward 64*, Alan Roskilly 12*: Vineet Tyagi 3-16, Charlie Darwood 2-39, Finlay Pearce 2-44.
Chasing a substantial total by league leaders Newcastle, in which Gregor caught twin brother Finlay Pearce, a good opening stand of 43 between Eashan Ragbir & Sam Ewart & another of 51 for the third wicket between Eashan & Angus Southern(33), presaged a collapse from 95-3 to 128-9 bolstered only by 22 from Aadesh Sahadevan in a partnership of 26 with Gregor Pearce (8).
Enter Ross at 9, then Alan at 11. In 35 minutes of spectacular hitting & good rotation of the strike, Ross struck 4x6 & 7x4 from 27 balls with Alan batting sensibly in support. A number of balls were lost into the Cemetery & onto Osborne Avenue! The flats over mid-wicket were peppered !
So many congratulations to the Academy team who retain second place in Sunday Division A North. Two games to go on Sunday 8th Aug v Tynemouth (a) & Sunday 15th Aug v Benwell Hill (h). Hoping we can finish on a high. Belief is everything. We never give in!
