The home team elected to bat. The day was sunny, the wicket greenish & a bit soft. Sam Davidson & Liam Marriott faced the right arm seam of Varun Gudipati & Will Young. A steady start, 16 after 4 then two consecutive maidens. Varun bringing it in & Will correcting his length to go fuller, 31-0 after 9 & Joe Dresser entered the attack. Then in over 13, the sla of Jacques Graham.

After a Dresser maiden, in over 17 Jacques took two wickets. Liam Marriott (27, 45b, 3x4) playing back to one that kept a little low, was bowled & at the same score Joe Walshaw (0) on the front foot, was lbw defending, 59-2. 65 -3 two overs later when Davidson (37,35b, 6x4), in two minds perhaps, was caught by Joe Dresser off Jacques at mid on.

In over 18 debutant Tom Oliver (lm) began a spell & in his third over JD Caris (8) hit high to cover where he was caught by Varun.84-4. Three wickets then fell in four overs. At 85 Turnbull (11) was caught by Will Young at backward point, another skier off a leading edge. At the same score Sim (0) was bowled by Jacques & at 87 Grosvenor (1) playing back to a fuller delivery, was bowled by Tom, 87-7 after 26 overs.

In over 28 Will Young returned & one over later Archit Upadhye's leg spin began a spell taking a wicket in his first over as Gaff (0) was lbw, 91-8. When Bailey (2) was lbw to Will Young in the 34th captain Logan Barton played positively hitting 11 in over 36 & 10 in the next but at 124 in the 38th Joe Dresser bowled Marshall (4) hitting the top of off stump, to leave the home side 124 all out.

The fielding was good, one chance missed but others taken so happy to chase that total.

Will Carr & Ricard Clifford faced Davidson (sla) & Sim (rm). From the 5th ball of the first over, his first, Richard (0) was lbw to Davidson. Boundaries in each of the next 3 overs, two to Jan Ozmen & one to Will Carr saw the score move to 36 in the 7th when Will C (14) drove the skiddy sla of Davidson to cover where Gaff held the catch.

Jan stroked two more boundaries in over 8 but at 53 in the 11th Jacques (4) aiming to cut edged to w/k Marriott also off Davidson, 3 down. Enter captain Ben Sid &, despite bowling changes which saw Turnbull, Grosvenor, Barton & Caris all try to breakthrough, he & Jan put together an undefeated partnership of 72 to win the game by 7 wickets in the 25th over, 125-3.

Jan 60* (69b,6x4) & Ben 35* (44b, 5x4) good running, an exemplary performance. The Academy on 37 points & in second place.

The bowling & fielding led by Jacques (4wickets) offered good control & Tom's, left arm over showing much promise (3 wickets), an impressive debut for him, backed up by safe hands & good ground fielding.

Onward to Sun 19th May v Benwell Hill (h) 1330 start, 40/40, we hope to see you there. May the sun shine !

Duncan.
