Another fine performance by a young Academy team saw a nine wicket victory at Hetton Lyons on Sunday 8 th May. In the absence of Hobbs, Pearce, Netts, Sahadevan & Clark from week one, first appearances for George Gray, Mo Shahbaz & Varun Gudipati.

Losing the toss, SNCC fielded, defending a short boundary on the Pavilion side, & after 13 overs, such was the accuracy of the right arm medium pace, opening attack of Will Alexander (6-3-7-0) & Jacob McCord (8-2-11-2), that the home team were 12-1.

Good fielding, including two catches for Jan, one for Sam as w/k, a caught & bowled by Varun on debut, a run out assist by Tris & steady bowling, as captain Jenny McDowell used 7 bowlers, saw the Lyons close their 40 overs at 168-7.

Sam Ewart & Alex Charnley opened up &, playing positively, took the game away from the home team with an opening partnership of 120 in 21 overs, Sam driving powerfully & taking advantage of the short legside boundary to hit 4x6 as the leg spinner dropped short. At 120 Sam was lbw sweeping to Walker for a very good 61 (60b, 4x4, 4x6).

Tris joined Alex & the latter then accelerated, driving through his favoured legside to finish 77* (98b, 7x4) with Tris on 15* as the total was reached comfortably after 29.4 overs.

17 points for the Academy & a next match away at Sunderland on Sun 15 th May 1330 start, 80 overs duration.
