After two defeats & 2 abandonments & in 7th position of 8, the Academy needed to bounce back to try to ensure Division 1 status for 2023. They did so against Tynemouth. Winning the toss, the visitors were invited to bat. Hallam & Hodgson faced the seam of West & Hobbs.

An opening partnership of 30 ended when Hallam (14) was bowled by Hobbs. Hodgson (27) was next to go advancing to Ross Ward but chipping back to the bowler. Joel Hull-Denholm (19) pushing forward & edging to Sam Ewart off Ward. Bowman retired hurt then Simpson was caught by Oliver Clark at mid off again off Ward.

Evan Hull-Denholm (4) driving, edged behind of Ru Fletcher, Sam taking the catch. Bowman (15) returned but from Jenny's first ball, drove to mid on to be caught by Ward. A handy partnership ensued before Aditjandra (17) fell lbw to Simon West & Chris Beever (25) drove Oliver Clark to long off where Ru took the catch. From the last ball of the innings, Ashton (7) was stumped by w/k Ewart off Clark. 159-9 in the 40 overs available.

Ewart & Charnley faced Watt & Ashton. An enterprising opening partnership of 80 got the Bulls on their way to victory. Sam Ewart 65 (60b 8x4) swept Hallam's leg spin to square leg. At 100, Charnley 32 (45b ,5x4) hit a full toss to mid wicket off Aditjandra.

Jan Ozmen (25) & Angus Southern (16) were busy before Jan gloved a lifting Watt delivery to the w/k. Tristan (10*) joined Angus & the pair moved the score on until Angus was well caught at slip driving Watt. Tristan cutting & Oliver (4*) dabbing, saw the Bulls home in 35 overs.

An important win featured good fielding & running, but still in 7th place & a need to continue to play well to preserve Division 1 status in the 4 games remaining. The next is on Sunday 14th August v Chester-le-Street (h). We hope you can be there.

Duncan.
