2's collapse to Tynemouth defeat

15th May 2019

After winning the toss on a heavily used wicket, Tynemouth captain Andrew Davison elected to bat first and his team got off to a solid if slow start against the seam of Ruddick and Davidson. Turner and Fairley moved the score to 45 before the former chopped on to Calum Fletcher’s first ball for 13. Koen chipped Dale to Ruaidhri Fletcher at extra cover and Robson was bowled by the younger Fletcher (2-28) as the away side fell to 69-3, and that became 94-4 when Davison edged Varley’s (1-10) first ball to slip for 11. James Ruddick (1-28) returned and with Richard Brook (3-17) and a couple of suicidal run outs bowled Tynemouth out for 133 in 44 overs.

South North lost Ryan Sidney-Wilmot (5) and Inti Fazal (4) early in the chase, but Sam Dale and Alex Weetman steadied the ship before the latter inexcusably skied the seam of Hay to mid-off for 6 to leave the score at 60-3. Captain Fletcher was stumped by the Hull-Denholms for 5, and Ruddick and Ben Sidney-Wilmot fell soon after as the home side collapsed to 88-6. Dale’s resistance ended for an excellent 64, and the tail rapidly fell as South North were bundled out for 106 and a first defeat of the season.

The 2’s will look to bounce back at Sunderland next Saturday 18 May.
