Sunday's trip to Washington saw a much changed side take on the NEPL league 1 side at Vigo Lane. Debuts for Alex Weetman, Cameron Skinner & Bobby Green & a first appearance for David Edwards amid medical rotas. Liam Trevaskis skippered.

Washington won the toss, Adam Hickey & Josh Wilson started with a bang despatching anything overpitched or short. The total had reached 74, in the 10th of 40, when Hickey (31) was bowled by James Ruddick (2-29 from 7o, a nice spell). Corner suffered the same fate one over later. Wilson was lucky to survive a stumping chance but continued at a run a ball.

Cam Skinner bowled Thompson (9) at 104-3 in the 19th, but Ash Thorpe & Wilson took the score to 145 before Thorpe (19)  was well held at extra cover by Andrew Doig off Trevaskis. Amid a very tidy spell by Matt Whitty (1-19 in 8o), wickets fell regularly but Wilson got to a deserved 100 in the penultimate over finishing 104* from 105 balls.

SN's reply saw Rob Peyton & Alex Weetman open. From only his second ball in the 4th over, Weetman(1) was caught at 1st slip of spinner Wilson. After two majestic straight 6's off the spinner, Trevaskis was caught behind off Race's medium pace for 17. Peyton was adjudged lbw for 19 to Wilson & Tindale bowled by Race for 2 leaving the visitors 47-4 in the 9th.

David Edwards had started fluently against the spin of Wilson, & joined by Doig, took the score to 75 before Doig (9) pulled Thorpe to mid wicket, Whitty was bowled by Thorpe for 2 & at 97, Ruddick stumped off Thorpe for 6. Only 22 overs gone but 7 wickets down. A gettable target if only wickets remained.

Edwards was unlucky to be lbw to Hickey for an excellent 48 (4x4 50 balls) strong through the offside & running well, 115-8 in the 26th. Green joined Skinner & both played nicely until Skinner (4 19b) was bowled by Hickey & Green (7 11b) caught by Race at square leg sweeping Hickey. The innings closed at 130 after only 30 overs, Wightman 2*. Disappointing, SN's fielding was good, but in reply, the overs were not used & an opportunity to demonstrate batting stickability was wasted. Important lessons for the future.
