1864s win at Wylam

25th Apr 2019

Congratulations to the 1864s for a narrow 6 run victory at Wylam in the first West Tyne Senior Cricket League match of the 2019 season.

Captained by Dave Harbottle the 1864s batted first and in their 40 overs were all out for 157. James Hutton top scored  with 34. There were other useful contributions from Dave Harbottle (29) and Richard Clifford 18 not out, Well done to Trudy Johnson who scored her first senior boundary 4 in a nice innings batting 11.

Wylam started well in pursuit of 158 to win and by the 18th over had reached 100 for 3. Thereafter wickets began to fall regularly and Wylam struggled to 124 for 8. However sensible batting from experienced players at 9, 10 and 11 inched Wylam towards their target. Only 7 runs were needed for victory at the start of the 36th over with the last pair at the crease. Saeed Akhtar, on debut, sent down probably the worst ball he had bowled all day but the Wylam batsman mistimed his shot and ended up being bowled. So victory to the 1864s by 6 runs and a full 20 points.

Good bowling by James Hutton (3 for 19 in 8 overs), Richard Clifford (2 for 23 in 8 overs) and Saeed Akhtar (2 for 34 in 7.5 overs). An honourable mention to Trudy Johnson who took her first senior wicket in a fine bowling spell finishing with figures of 1 for 13 in 5 overs.

The 1864s next play on 27 April and are away to Haydon Bridge - never an easy fixture.
