                                  1864'S TRIUMPH AGAINST TYNEMOUTH

MAIDEN 50 FOR JACK PATTERSON: MAIDEN 101* FOR FRASER HALL.

      Sat 5th July 2025: NTCL Div 5 Central: SNCC v Tynemouth (h) 40/40

There are days you remember all your life & it is hoped that Jack & Fraser (15) remember last Saturday as both achieved personal milestones in helping the 1864's to an important win against Tynemouth, which keeps them in 9th/12, away from the relegation places.

Also a satisfying memory for Aadi to win on his captaincy debut, managing his resources carefully.

SNCC 204-8 (40o) Jack Patterson 50, Fraser Hall 101*, Leo Harper 13: Paul Hurst 1-47, James Bough 2-33, Sean Aditjandra 1-50, E Aditjandra 2-36, Richard Harland 1-30, Ian Cusack 1-15.

Tynemouth 168-8 (40o) Anthony Turner 27, E Aditjandra 32, Sean Aditjandra 38, Cameron Donachie 14: Zach Henderson 0-15, Leo Harper 0-16, Archit Upadhye 0-14, Jacques Graham 2-42, Dominic Johnson 2-18, Elliott Mee 2-25, David Cragg 2-26.

SNCC won by 36 runs - 29 points, Tynemouth 9.

A sunny day at Belsay, a green wicket, the 1864's chose to bat. Aadi & Belinda faced the seam of  Hurst & Bough. 7-1 when Belinda (7) was caught at mid wicket off Bough. 22-2 when Aadi was bowled by a Bough yorker.

There followed a partnership of 69 for the third wicket as Jack & Fraser batted calmly, both showing the intent necessary on the wicket, building their innings' well. Jack punching through the offside, cutting & pulling, Fraser cautiously at first, then driving or picking up to leg towards the short boundary.

The total had reached 91 when Jack (a maiden 50, 60b, 8x4) drove E Aditjandra to cover where Turner took the catch. Two wickets followed quickly as Elliott Mee (0) was caught by Hurst at point off E Aditjandra & Jacques Graham (2) by Turner at cover off Harland, 95-5.

Another substantial partnership of 77 for the 6th wicket followed as Fraser & Leo Harper rebuilt. Fraser becoming more confident as he passed 60 punishing the bad balls & Leo defending, leaving sensibly & rotating nicely as the pair ran well. Cusack's introduction ended the partnership as Leo (13) hoisted to deep square leg & was caught by E Aditjandra, 173-6.

176-6 when Zach (2) was bowled by a leg break from S Aditjandra & 189-8 when Dominic (1) was caught by Jose off the returning Hurst. Archit (2*) kept Fraser company & the cheers rang out in the 39th over as Fraser reached his hundred !! The innings closed after 40 overs at 204 -8, Fraser101* (112b,11x4, 2x6) a magnificent innings on a not entirely flat surface.

In reply Turner & E Aditjandra faced the seam of Zach Henderson & Leo Harper. 33-0 after 9 as Archit bowled three overs of leg spin. Leo bowled 5 overs nicely & the total had reached 53 when E Aditjandra (32) was stumped by Belinda off Jacques Graham.

Dominic Johnson had begun a spell of off spin & at 62 Will Bogg (3) was lbw to him. At 74 a second wicket for Dominic as Turner (27) was caught by Elliott at mid wicket, 3 down.

83-3 at half way & another partnership of 40 between S Aditjandra & Donachie ended when Aadi caught Donachie (14) off Jacques, 114-4 after 29 overs. An all spin attack as Elliott (lb) & David Cragg (sla) twirled & success at 144 when S Aditjandra (38) was bowled by David.

Jose (7) was stumped by Belinda off David at 153, two runs later Elliott, around the wicket, bowled Harland (4) & then Bough (4) leaving Tynemouth 158-8. A rear guard action by Simon Bogg (10*) & Paul Hurst (10*) enabled the total to rise but only to 168 after the 40 overs.

Two wickets each for Jacques, Dominic, Elliott & David, some tidy fielding on an outfield that is not flat requiring the body to be behind the ball & some missed chances but lots of good things to build on. The 1864's remain 9th of 12 on 158 points.

Onward to Sat 12th July, SNCC 1864 v Lions (h) 1300, 40/40 some tough games to come against the top 4 teams in Division 5, we hope you can be there to cheer the team on.

Spare a thought for Charlotte, as the only scorer, when the system crashed at 116-5 in the SN innings. Reverting to phone then book never easy with the pace of the game in front of you. Then later, with  grateful thanks, uploading accurately to play cricket, can be tough.

Duncan.
