Match abandoned rain: Benwell Hill 10 points SNCC 10 points.
A pity the match was curtailed due to persistent drizzle after the 1864's had upped the rate, needing only 34 in the 19 overs remaining, when the teams left the field.
Travel difficulties for three meant that, having lost the toss, the 1864's began with 8 fielders. A rapid start by Aatif saw 40-0 after 10 overs as runs went to unprotected parts over a fast outfield. A full complement of players & accurate overs from Patrick Hatcher & David Cragg pulled it back, 60-2 in the 20 th. A lthough the fielding & catching were variable, good spells from Jacob McCord, Mo Shahbaz, & a tight, 5 overs by George McConnell, saw a final total of 138-6 after 40o, which seemed gettable.
Overcoming the loss of Jacob, George & Kush in the first 4 overs, Belinda Wewalage 26 (5x4), batted with composure. As the drizzle persisted, 50-5 & Ahmer retired hurt, saw Patrick & Kailasam together. They put together an important 50 partnership with 20 coming off the penultimate over as Kailasam swung the bat.
The drizzle became heavier & the players left the field after 21 overs & could not return.
The next match is at Greenside (home) to Wylam on Sat 7th May.
