BULLS FINISH NEPL PREMIER DIVISION RUNNERS UP AFTER DEFEAT OF FELLING
24th September 2024
8th Jul 2019
The 1864s had not won a game since 4 May and travelled to Belsay with confidence low.
The home side had not yet won a game in the 2019 season and fielded a weakened side with some players not available. The 1864s won the toss and chose to bowl first on a pitch that looked helpful but in fact played very well. The Belsay captain was clean bowled in the first over and his fellow opener went soon after. 18 for 2 in the 10th over. Thereafter wickets were harder to come by and useful partnerships for the middle order took Belsay to 157 for 8 at the end of the 40 overs. 2 wickets for Dave Harbottle. Congratulations to Allexander Charnley who kept wicket very well on his debut for the side. Definitely one for the future.
Batting has been a problem for the 1864s recently and there was not much confidence that they could chase down the Belsay score. A good start was important. Sree Kanakala and Eashan Ragbir started watchfully but soon picked up the pace reaching 40 in the 10th over. Sree fell for 16 which brought Dave H to the crease. Had he recovered from the excesses of Glastonbury? Yes turned out to be the answer. Eashan and Dave put on exactly 100 for the 3rd wicket. The first 100 partnership for the 1864s in living memory!! Dave was eventually out for an important 56. 18 to win. Plenty of overs to play with. Eashan, not out 66, and Alan Roskilly saw the 1864s home by 8 wickets. A good win.
The next game is at Matfen on 13 July against a Haydon Bridge side who are hard to beat. Let's give it a go!!
