1864s lose in round 1 of West Tyne Knockout Cup

31st May 2019

After the amount of rain that had fallen it was perhaps surprising that the game was on. Well done to the Benwell Hill ground staff.

Batting first the 1864s were soon in trouble. 0 for 1 became 16 for 5 after 7 overs. An excellent innings from Alan Fletcher brought some respectability.  He was out for 30 and was supported at the end by Neil Morris with a useful 10. 76 all out was clearly below par.

Benwell Hill started well and were 20 for 0 after 3 overs. The 1864s stuck at it and were rewarded with 5 wickets but Benwell Hill won comfortably in the end with 7 overs in hand. The pick of the bowlers was David Cragg with 3 for 7 from his 4 overs.

The 1864s are in league action on 1 June at Matfen against the 2018 league winners Humshaugh. Start 1330.
