1864s lose away at Humshaugh

18th Aug 2019

An away fixture at Humshaugh, the 2018 League and Cup winners, is never an easy one. Even more so when the 1864s took a much changed side after a staggering number of "not available" comments were posted on WhatsApp.

Humshaugh were asked to bat first on a cool and breezy day. The outfield was damp after the heavy rain on Friday. 4 for 2 after 6 overs was a good start. A partnership of 43 for the 3rd wicket steadied things before the Humshaugh captain was bowled by a beauty from Obaid Tauqir. The batsman said it turned more than a Shane Warne delivery!! Humshaugh lost wickets regularly and were all out for 128. 3 wickets each for Obaid Tauqir and Mohamed Tauqir.  2 for David Cragg. 1 for Owen Hollins and a first West Tyne wicket for Harry Bowers.

The 1864s reply needed a good start. It did not happen!! 5 for 1 in over 2 became 49 for 7 by over 18. Mohamed Tauqir and Harry Bowers put on 20 for the 8th wicket . Still a long way to with only 2 wickets left - one of them being Omar Tauqir at the tender age of 11. The other being David Cragg who is a bit more than 11.  The score was 77 for 9 when David Cragg joined Mohamed Tauqir in the middle. In an eventful 7 overs 38 runs were added before Mohamed was out for an excellent 48.

Defeat in the end by 13 runs but a brave effort from a makeshift side. More runs needed!! Next week at Matfen against Wylam who are struggling to avoid relegation.  But availability is not looking good.
