    Wed 5th July 2023: WTL Div 1 KO Cup semi-final: SNCC v Haltwhistle(a)

SNCC 1864 103-7 (20o) Guy Johnson 33, Will Carr 14, Trudy Johnson 21, Gregor Pearce 14*: A Richardson 2-18, J Wallace 1-23, R Graham 1-17, D Thompson 0-13, D Kirkup 3-17, S Marsh 0-13.

Haltwhistle 106-3 (14.4o) D Kirkup 43, J Wallace 38*: Belinda Wewalage 0-12, Gregor Pearce 2-27, Patrick Hatcher 1-13, Charlie O'Brien 0-23, Zach Henderson 0-19, Trudy Johnson 0-5

Haltwhistle won by 7 wickets.

A sunny evening at Haltwhistle, the wicket was dry, the visitors chose to bat. George McConnell & Guy Johnson faced the experienced right arm seam of A Richardson & Wallace. 6-1 from the first ball of the third over as George (3) picked up A Richardson very cleanly to deep backward square only to see the fielder make 15 yards & take an excellent catch.

Will Carr (12b 2x4) hit two nice boundaries but at 31 in the 7th flicked Kirkup to mid-wicket where John Richardson took the catch. Guy Johnson was going well, but at 38 in the 8th Ben Sid (2) missed a full, straight one from A Richardson, 38-3 & in the 9th Belinda (0) was bowled by Graham, 42-4.

Trudy joined brother Guy & the pair added 29 nicely running well & hitting the bad ball, until in the 15th Guy (33, 46b,4x4) drove Kirkup but saw the bowler take a good, low catch moving to his left. Trudy continued with Jaques Graham but at 86 in the 18th Trudy (21,26b,2x4) drove aerially & was caught at cover by J Richardson also off Kirkup, 6 down.

Jaques (5) got one that stopped a bit & lobbed back to bowler Kirkup at 96. Gregor hit 4 & 6 in the last over to end a commendable 14*, Patrick 1*, a below par total of 103 -7 in the 20 overs against an experienced & capable side.

Graham & Kirkup faced the off spin of Belinda & leg spin of Gregor. One from the first but 2x6 from the second & 11 from the third, powerful batsmen punishing variations of length.

Patrick bowled the 4th & induced Graham (7) to play on, 26-1. Wallace joined Kirkup & the pair advanced the score sensibly. Charlie's first over conceded 1x4 6x2, 20 in total, his length awry. Patrick's spell of 4 overs went for only 13 & in over 9 Gregor took two wickets as first Kirkup (43, 24b, 1x4,4x6) cramped by a wrong un mishit back to the bowler & 3 balls later Connolly advanced but miscued towards point where Guy took a smart catch, 62-3 after 9.

Two from over 10, Patrick's last, then 2 from the next by Gregor, but Zach conceded 15 from over 12 & Gregor 12 from over 13, as both suffered when too short or too full. In saving a hard hit from going for 4, Will Carr sustained an injury to his right thumb & needed treatment so the 10 had to spread themselves.

The winning runs came in the 15th after 4 balls of Trudy's first over. Wallace 38* A Richardson 6*, 106-3 (14,4o). Not enough runs against a capable side.

Onward to Sat 8th July WTL Div 1: SNCC 1864 v Riding Mill (a) 1330 40/40, we hope you can join us.
