1864'S HEROIC TEAM OF 10 DOMINATE HALTWHISTLE & GO THIRD IN WTL DIV1.

     Sat 9th Sept 2023: West Tyne League Div 1: SNCC v Haltwhistle (a) 40/40

Haltwhistle 82ao (28.4o) A Richardson 10, D Thompson 24, J Richardson 11: Gregor Pearce 4-28, Jacob McCord 1-9, Patrick Hatcher 2-10, George McConnell 2-9, Jack Netts 1-17.

SNCC 1864 won by 5 wickets (10 players) - 20 points, Haltwhistle 0.

On returning to South North early the smiles said it all. Patrick had spent a considerable time trying to raise 11 but had to settle for a team of 10 to go to Haltwhistle, usually a challenging fixture. For then the senior players to stand up, bowl out the home team for 82 & win by 5 wickets was a most pleasing experience.

Haltwhistle won the toss & chose to bat. Marsh (0) was lbw to Gregor at 4. Thompson (3) defending, was bowled by Jacob at 5 with one that drifted away. Snowdon's (0) leading edge skied to short cover for Jacob to take the catch off Gregor, 8-3. The home team bemused by Gregor's control of length & spin variations; he was gaining reward for good performances in recent weeks without the wickets to show for them.

A Richardson (10) was bowled by a Gregor googly at 21. In Patrick's first over two wickets fell, at 31 Dodd (6) was bowled by a slower delivery & two balls later a faster, in swinging yorker bowled S Birkett (0), 6 down.

At 40 Barker (0) defending, was bowled by Gregor. At 42 O Birkett (1) was bowled by George McConnell with one that straightened, 42-8. D Thompson (24, 64 b, 3x4) had been obdurate but at 66 he was very well caught by w/k Ben Sid on the offside off George.

J Richardson (11, 37b 2x4) had resisted but at 82 he missed a straight one from Jack Netts, 82 all out.

Aaryan & Jacob opened against the leg spin of Dodd & seam of Marsh. After 6 overs the score was 44. Dodd disappearing over long on as Aaryan hit for 6 & Jacob taking 4x4 off Marsh in one over, driving merrily.

At 57 Aaryan 31, (28b, 5x4, 1x6) leading edged to mid-wicket off A Richardson. At 68 Jacob 24 (26b,5x4) was also caught by Dodd off O Birkett. With 4 to win Jan (9) edged to w/k J Richardson off Barker & one ball later left-handed George (0) was strangled down the legside, also edging to the w/k, 78-4.

Jacques (5*) rotating nicely & Ben Sid (0*) saw the 1864's home after only 13.1 overs; Patrick, Gregor, Arif & Jack not required to bat, a very satisfying win. One more league match to go on Sat 16th Sept v Hexham Leazes (at South North).

We do hope you can be there to cheer the 1864's on to at least a top four finish currently third on 252 points. Onward!

Duncan.
