1864's won by 45 runs - 30 points, Belsay 7.
A deserved win for the 1864's with a team containing 5 U15's & 1 U13 who contributed 70 runs, 5 wickets & some very tidy wicket keeping by Elliott Mee. The 1864's were invited to bat. Aadi Bethanabatla & Will Oliver faced the seam of Bertram & Tait.
Three maidens in the first 6 overs but boundaries to both, however one ball after Aadi had driven straight for 4, a repeat attempt saw him bowled for 12, 24-1. Will took 10 off Hewitt's next over until at 48 in the 17th Will (28, 52b,4x4) a pleasing return to form, drove Hewitt to mid off. Olly Alexander (6) who had batted calmly for 30 balls, got a leading edge to point, 49-3.
Jacob hit the off spin of Omar Sheriff for 3 consecutive boundaries, then another but at 72 he was bowled by Mills for 16 (6 balls, 4x4). Elliott Mee (6) was then caught off a no ball but he & Will Asherson were in two minds mid pitch & Elliott was run out,76-5 after 24 overs.
Ben West struck a boundary in over 28 but in the next Will Asherson (6, 24b) was bowled by Mills, 91-6. Patrick attacked during overs 33,34 & 35 hitting 3x4 1x6 & had reached 31 (29b, 4x4,1x6) until he was caught in two minds in over 37 & mistimed to mid off, Tait the bowler.
Simon West (12) struck 4 & 6 to mid wicket in over 39 before skying to point & Chris Mee hit 2x4 through the covers in the last. Ben West's 24* was triumph of mature application & good running. At the close of 40 overs, the 1864's were 168-8: defendable.
Chasing, Johnson & Liyanage faced the medium pace of Jacob McCord & Simon West. A wicket from ball 5 as Johnson (4) managed to be bowled by a short, slower one ! Liyanage drove a 4 & pulled a 6 but in over 4, Omar Sheriff (1) was lbw to Simon. A repeat two overs later as another full length delivery trapped Brooker (6) lbw, 26-3. Steady progress until Patrick found his favourite slower ball yorker to bowl Liyanage (22) 44-4 in the 11th.
4 wickets then fell 5 overs as Turner (4) was lbw to a Patrick in dipper, Tait (1) beaten in the flight & bowled by Will Asherson's off break, Mills (26, 36b,1x4 2x6) very well caught by Olly Alexander on the boundary, reaching over his head, again off Will A & Scott (8) top edging a sweep to square leg where Olly moved in & took another good low catch, 82-8 after 20 overs.
Hewitt responded positively striking 4 x4 as Dominis Johnson & Will A continued.117-8 after 25 overs. In over 26 Bertram (3) was bowled by Ben West's leg break, hitting the top of off stump & one over later Will Oliver bowled Mills (2) in identical fashion. Belsay 123 all out in 27 overs: a deserved win for the 1864's.
Seven bowlers used, a good spell from Will Asherson to take 3 wickets, calm & safe hands by Olly, effective ground fielding, tidy w/k by Elliott, a welcome return to form for Will Oliver, mature batting from Ben all assisted by Patrick's Simon's & Chris Mee's experience & Jacob's exuberance!
Onward to Sat 7th June 1864 v Washington (a) 1300 40/40, we hope you can be there to cheer them on.
