Cowgate won by 138 runs - 30 points, SNCC 1864 9.

Cowgate won the toss & chose to bat against a very youthful 1864's giving debuts to Matthew Scott & Zainab Shafiq. The left arm seam of George McConnell & Thomas Oliver were faced by Mahmood & Shahzeb. A good start in that in over 2 Mahmood (2) gloved a pull to w/k Fraser off Tom Oliver.

No further success, a foot injury to Thomas, change bowlers Dominic, Matthew,  Rayyan & Jacob were all punished for variations in length, either too short or too full. 72-2 in the 14th when Shahzeb (39)  pushed Dominic to mid off where Rayyan picked up smartly & a direct hit to the bowler's stumps effected the run out ! Bravo!

Ahmad cleared the front leg & struck 107 (86b, 10x4, 8x6) to mid wicket or straight, quickly in company with Kumar & the total reached 185 in the 26th when Ahmad, attacking, skied a pull off Rayyan to be caught by w/k Fraser. Sherzad (13) fell in the 30th, Aadi's first over, slicing to Jan at deep cover. Kumar (47, 50b, 5x4 2x6) fell at 232 cutting Aadi to point caught by a substitute fielder after Zainab had damaged an ankle in search of a lost ball over the fence.

In the same 32nd over Ahmed (0) was bowled sweeping, 255-7. George accounted for Khan (13) in over 35 finding the edge as Fraser took his third catch. Aadi then took three more wickets as Awan (29) swung him to George at deep mid wicket 271-8, then Marefkhel (8) was bowled & Bughio (5) caught & bowled from the 4th ball of the last over.

Aadi's best ever bowling performance 6-41 but a mountain to climb for the batters chasing 295. Jack (4) was adjudged lbw on the back foot in over 3. Then a splendid partnership of 91 between Jan (49) & Fraser (40) provided some respectability against a mix of seam & spin.

This was broken at 98 in the 26th over when Jan (49, 72b 4x4) was lbw to Bughio playing forward. Aadi (8) succumbed at 106, having hit 2x4, then launched straight to be caught at long on from the next ball. Fraser (40, 71b, 6x4), another accomplished innings, fell at 108, edging off the back foot to w/k Ankush off Shezad.

A partnership of 30 between George & Jacob ended at 138 when George (13) top edged to offer another catch to w/k Ankush off Ahmed. Matthew (1) beaten for pace & bowled by Sherzad at 143 in the 34th over. Jacob (21) attacking, was caught off Ahmed in the 37th, Tom (7) chipped to mid wicket in the 39th & Dominic (1) missed a straight one from Khan. Zainab unable to bat so 157 all out but surviving to the last over was most creditable against experienced opponents.

A strong effort in the field, no drops & but not ideal batting conditions as the wind blew & the light faded.

Onward to Sat 13th Sept the last match of 2025 SNCC 1864 v GEMS (a) 1300 40/40. We hope you can be there to cheer the team on.
