SN won by 72 runs- 17 points, Mitford 5.
A blistering 99 from Jacob McCord (9x4, 8x6) set the scene for a dominant, third consecutive win for the 1864's. A partnership of 92 for the first wicket with George McConnell (35, 4x4, 1x6), whose measured, mature innings blossomed & another of 72 with Tris for the second wicket ended at 164 with Jacob on 99! Hitting powerfully & cleanly down the ground & running well with George & Tris, showed what could be achieved.
Tris (50) was out at 205 & Jan (17) at 215. Mitford did not bowl badly but the bad balls were despatched ! Aadesh 3* & Ben Sid 4*, from his only delivery, completed the innngs at 220-4.
Mitford lost opener Ellinor(0) at 1 bowled by Will Alexander & Cook (3) at 19 in the 7th, caught by Ben Sid (+) off Charlie Pemberton, sadly playing his last game for the 64's. Will struck again at 26 when Kush caught Brown (0). Suffocating bowling from Charlie, Will, David, Patrick & Jacob meant that opener Parker & captain Mole found it hard to chase, the score advancing slowly to be 74 off 26 overs when Patrick caught Mole (23) at mid wicket off David Cragg.
The 1864's ground fielding was good but voluble opener Parker was granted 6 lives as catches were not taken & only took advantage of late overs with no attempt to win the game.
Three consecutive wins, 17 points, 7 th position in Division 1, promising signs of good cricket to come. The next game is v Riding Mill on Sat 4 th June at Greenside. We must aim to continuously improve, especially catching! We can do it !
