1864s defeat Riding Mill for 4th consecutive league win

SNCC 1864 won by 57 runs- 20 points; Riding Mill 6.

On Sat 4 th June, the 1864's recorded a fourth consecutive league win in West Tyne League Division 1 against Riding Mill at home venue Greenside. Winning the toss & batting, Oliver Clark & Mo Arabi put on 30 for the first wicket before Mo (20) & driving nicely, was bowled. Oliver (10) was c&b 4 runs later.

Oliver Young & George McConnell batted well & their partnership had reached 64 when U14 George (39, 4x4, 1x6) was caught in the gully, a fine innings, 98-3. To his disappointment, Kush followed soon after. Belinda (13) caught & Charlie (0) bowled succumbed, 122-6 with only 13 overs left.

Oliver & Patrick combined positively to post 49 for the 7th wicket before Oliver (56, 6x4, 1x6) was bowled; an excellent, composed then expansive innings, 171-7. Varun (6*) ran well & Patrick, after a watchful start, (51* 8x4, 1x6) targetted the short boundary, the innings ending at 201-7 after 40 overs, an undefeated 30 for the 8th wicket.

Jack Netts's opening overs were a mixed bag, George McConnell's were accurate. At 5 Hall was bowled by Netts. At 9, Zurawlew was caught at cover by Patrick off Jack. At 23 Cox (4), was bowled by George. David Cragg offered control. A Watson & Amin took the score to 47 before Cragg persuaded Amin (15) to hit high to the boundary where Charlie took a good catch, 47-4.

A partnership of 40 between opener Andy Watson & Longstaff threatened but at 87, Longstaff (20) was caught by Patrick at cover off Varun Gudipati's medium pace. The introduction of Oliver Clark's off spin did for Watson (35) who chipped a c&b back to the bowler at 97.

Another partnership built but at 129 Collins(14) was well caught by George at mid wicket off David Cragg. At 143, Frazer (27) skied Mo to mid wicket where Charlie took another neat catch, 8 down. The end was nigh, Mo, bowling full & briskly, hit the stumps of both Terry (0) & Watson B (0) at 144 all out, ending with 3-21.

A convincing 57 run victory, partnerships built when batting, wickets taken at the right time when bowling, fielding smartly. All good !
