SNCC 1864 X1 213 ao (39.1o) Aadi Bethanabatla 34, Olly Alexander 29, Gregor Pearce 31, Rayyan Mohammed 14, Matthew Smith 38, Tom Hunter 15: Dylan Murray 2-29, Dan Smith 0-57, Miguel Ribero 1-59, Declan Mackay 4-21, Ethan Edirisingha 0-25, Ian Murray 0-13.
Annfield Plain won by 15 runs - 30 points, 1864's 8.
A bold effort by the 64's which came unstuck just after the break when 4 wickets were lost for 7 runs in 4 overs but then fighting back to be almost at par on 213 after 39 overs, albeit 9 down, only to suffer a run out from the first ball of the last over chasing the 16 needed.
The hosts chose to bat, Sandhu & Smith faced the seam of Rayyan Mohammed & Tom Hunter. Bowling into a strong breeze was tough & a fast start saw Dan Smith (65) striking 12x4 & 1x6 in the first 10 overs straight or over the legside, only to succumb in over14, when responding to a call from Sandhu, as Olly Alexander produced a brilliant direct hit from point with one stump to aim at!!
The tempo slowed as Gregor (9 overs for 33) & Matthew Smith bowled accurately. 89-1 became 133-2 at halfway drinks as Sandhu (40) edged a drive onto his stumps in Matthew's second over. A partnership of 30 between Edirisingha & Brewis ended at 163 when Dominic enticed a heave from Edirisingha (37) who was bowled.
George began a tidy spell of 6 overs for only 14 & at the other end Dominic enticed Murray D (18) to swing & miss, 185-4 in the 34th over. Brewis (29) playing forward & raising a heel, was very sharply stumped by Belinda in the 37th off Dominic, 207-5. Three balls later Roberts (5) swung & missed to be bowled, 208-6. A maiden 5 fer for Dom became a reality as Davison (1) advanced, missed & was stumped by Belinda 215-7. Ribero plundered 13 from the last which was to provide an important cushion.
In reply George & Aadi faced the seam of Dylan Murray & Dan Smith. George (12) struck 3x4 but found cover off Murray in the 3rd over, 16-1. Aadi & Olly began to up the tempo from over 6 Aadi (34, 5x4 1x6) hitting 24 in three overs, straight & through the off side until at 65 in the 11th he edged on aiming to cut.
Steady progress to be 110-2 at drinks as Gregor hit 7x4 including 3 in the same over from Ribero down the ground & through point, but the loss of 4 wickets in 4 overs immediately afterwards put the 64's on the back foot. Olly (29) was lbw to Mackay's slow left arm as the ball skidded on. Belinda (5) edged but set off only to be runout from first slip.
Gregor (31) was then well caught by Sandhu in the gully off Mackay & Tom Oliver (0) was bowled by a Ribero jaffa, pitching middle & hitting the top of off, 117-6 after 24 overs. Matthew then provided some resistance & with Rayyan they put together a partnership of 46 until Rayyan (14) was caught by Smith at midwicket off Mackay, 161-7.
Tom Hunter (3) was caught by Smith at extra cover off Mackay in the 33rd 170-8. Matthew then struck Edirisingha for 13 in over 34 driving straight or through mid wicket. Sadly at 186 Matthew's enterprising innings (38, 34b 5x4) ended as he was run out hoping to take a leg bye opportunity off Dominic, 184-9.
Tom Young struck 1x4 then 3x2 through point in over 37 & 1x4 in over 38 which ended on 206-9. 7 from I Murray's second the 39th but from the first ball of the last over Tom Y (15) 15b 2x4) was run out chasing a single, Dominic (6*).
A brave effort by the team, some good fielding, only one chance & some overthrows on the debit side & some fighting spirit from the batting to get so close. Just needed someone to convert their start into a more substantial total.
The 64's slip to 10th in Div 5 Central on 245 points but many points clear of the relegation places. Two games to go beginning with Sat 6th Sept 1864 v Cowgate (h) 1300 40/40. We hope you can be there to cheer the team on.
Duncan.
