A warm, sunny evening at Roseworth Terrace, the pitch towards Moor Road, the Bulls chose to bat after skipper Danny Collins won the toss. Will Oliver & Tris Meears-White opened against the seam of Dreyer & Haswell.
A maiden, a boundary to Tris in over 2 but then he offered a catch to point as the ball bounced a little. Danny joined Will & the pair pushed on. Cover driving regularly & despatching to the shorter legside Danny got to 50* in the 10th but in the 11th Will (27, 3x4 1x6) drove Breeze to mid off, 80 -2.
George McConnell, in his last game before Australia beckons, hit a quick fire 34 with 3x4 3x6, two maximums going well into Moor Road as spinner Raffle suffered. But in the18th George (34) was caught off Raffle &, after a swift 7, Ben Sidney-Wilmot was bowled by the same bowler.
Danny pressed on to 81* (10x4,1x6) driving through cover & launching one 6. Olly Alexander (2*) faced two balls in the last over, 181-4, a very competitive total.
In reply the Bomarsund innings began with a flurry of boundaries as Robinson struck both Scott Alexander (rm) & Waheed Safi (ob) who opened up the attack. 18-0 after 2 overs, but then Scott produced a metronomic spell taking 4 wickets in his 5 overs for just 16 to wreck the visitors innings, two bowled, Richard Oliver & Tris assisting with catches.
48-3 after 8 overs, then another for Scott in his 5th a second wicket maiden, 4 down. Then David Cragg (sla) 2 wickets in two overs, including Maughan (10) skied caught & bowled & Matt Williams (rm) 4 wickets in 3.5 overs, including a neat catch by Olly at extra cover off a skier, made further inroads as only Maughan & later Dreyer (11*) resisted. The end came after 15.5 overs, an emphatic win by 113 runs.
Grateful thanks as ever to Tim Johnson (umpire) & Dominic Johnson (scorer). The season continues with important cup games to come.
Duncan.
