SNCC 1864 won by 36 runs- 30 points, Gosforth Strikers 10.
Back to back wins for the 64's as they overcame 9 player Gosforth Strikers at sunny Belsay. The wicket seemed soft & on winning the toss the 64's were invited to bat.
George Gray & Aadi Bethanabatla faced the right arm seam of Chattergee & Dileepkumar, the latter from around the wicket. A wicket in over one as Aadi (0) cut a short, wide delivery from Chattergee to point.
Will Carr joined George & the pair scored quickly, George striking boundaries in overs 3 &4 then 3x4 in over 6 driving & pulling. He stroked 4,2,1 in over 8 as Kapoor (rm) entered the attack. Then after a 6 to leg off Chattergee, George (30, 31b 6x4 1x6) mistimed a pull back to bowler Kapoor in the 10th over. Tom Seymour entered on his debut & watched as Will Carr stroked 4.2.4 in the same over, 62-2 after 10 overs.
Tom lifted a 6 to mid wicket & drove straight for 4 in over 11. Xavier (rm) entered the attack but suffered as Tom took 2.4.1 then 6.4.2 in the 15th. At 93 in the 14th over Will (35, 37b 5x4) swung Kapoor to backward square leg for Xavier to take a good catch, chest high.
Two overs later Tom (32, 21b 3x4, 2x6) aimed to drive Xavier over mid off where an almost nonchalant Chattergee struck up a left hand to take a very good catch above his head, 107-4.
Belinda (10) was caught at point in over 21, 128-5. Then Elliott showed some serious intent pulling Xavier for 4.4.2 & in his next 4.x.4.4.1 lovely drives off the back foot through the offside as well as targeting behind square leg. The partnership with Jack Seymour had raised 42 when at 170 Elliott (43, 33b 6x4) chipped Dileepkumar to Lalam at mid wicket, 6 down. A sparkling & responsible innings from Elliott.
Jack & Finley Birtwisle batted sensibly in putting on 24 for the 7th wicket until Jack (14, 33b 1x4)) who had explored the legside nicely with 4x2, was bowled by Dileepkumar, 194-7.
Two overs later both Finn (8) & Rayan (0) were undone by yorkers from Dileepkumar, 197-9. But Will Young (38b 3x4 2x6) ensured a big finish. As Dominic defended the left handed Will plundered 3x4 & 2x6 to mid wicket & square leg, the last over going 6.....6W, caught & bowled by Lalam, a creditable 227all out in 40 overs.
In reply George Gray & Will Young were faced by Lalam & Abraham. A wicket in over 3 as non striker Abraham (1) was run out as Aadi at mid wicket stopped then threw to w/k Will Carr.
Lalam (17) hit 4x4 but in the 8th his pull was caught by Dominic at forward square leg, 31-2. Tom Seymour joined the attack as George bowled his full quota then in over 1 Shadananan (10) drove to mid off & set off. Rayan picked & threw down the bowler's stumps with a direct hit !! 53-3.
Eapen (34, 51b 4x4,1x6), batting at three had progressed nicely to 26*, hoisting George to mid wicket for 6, but three overs later Tom enticed a big shot & Will Young took a neat catch at long on, 83-4.
Elliott had begun a spell of leg spin in over 17 but suffered a little as Dileepkumar (32b, 3x6) slog swept 3x6 but in over 24, Rayan's third, a swing & a miss & he was bowled, 121-5.
Kapoor (35, 3x4 2x6) also targeted the legside in Rayan's next pulling 2x6 but he fell in over 30 as Will Young returned & Aadi took the catch at deep square leg, 162-6. This became 166-7 in Will's next as Waghese (16) edged a pull high over the w/k for Will Carr to run back to take the skier,.
Will, George, Tom all had overs but it was Finley in over 36, his second, who enticed Chattergee (4) to drive to extra cover where Tom took the catch, 8 down but all out for 189; another heartening 30 points for the 64's.
They could not cling on to 2/3 chances but in general the fielding was good.
