SNCC 1864 won by 6 wickets- 29 points, Greenside 7.
The wind blew at sunny Belsay as the 1864's faced Greenside in what turned out to be a high scoring game in which many balls were lost in adjacent fields as both teams totalled over 200.19x6 & 24x4 were plundered, the 64's emerging victorious after a record-breaking 4th wicket partnership of 157 between Aadi Bethanabatla (115) & James Lunn (67*) in 20 overs.
Greenside chose to bat, Young Ridden & Graham faced the seam of Ben Hobbs & off spin of James Lunn. Graham (5) was bowled by Lunny in the second over as the delivery slid on through his defence.
A partnership of 45 ensued as Ward joined Young-Ridden. Aryan Kalluri began a spell in the 9th & Leo Harper in the 10th. At 50 in the 12th Ward (23) aimed to leg but skied to deep cover where Fraser Hall took the catch.
A further useful partnership of 53 between Young-Ridden & Foster. In over19 Ben returned off a shorter run with w/k Matty Rathbone standing up because the soft wicket did not suit attempts to bowl quickly. This brought dividends immediately as a raised heel by Young-Ridden (56, 59b, 2x4 6x6) was spotted by Matty who stumped him, 103-3.
Lunny also returned & two maidens were bowled. At 128 in the 26th Karan (7) was adjudged to be caught & bowled by Lunny despite his protestation that the delivery was a bumped ball, 4 down. Opposition umpire unbowed by his team mate's complaint.
After Ben & James had finished their allocated 9 overs, Finn Birtwisle (sla 13) & Rayan Mohammed (rm 14) bowled the final 12 overs, a bold move which after a torrid first over paid rich dividends as Finn bowled Haney (10) one ball after being hit for 6, 143-5.
Two overs later Finn persuaded Foster (48, 53b, 5x4 1x6) to advance & miss an attempted big shot to leg as the ball turned & bounced to be stumped by Matty, 168-6. In his next Britten (7) hit Finn to deep cover where Lunny took the catch, 171-7.
Rowell & Sowden put on 25 but at 197 in Rayan's 5th over, Sowden (19) defending was bowled by a straighter one. The wind was strong so an outside off stump line had been preferred prior to this.
In the 39th Bell (0) missed a straight one from Finn who completed only his second senior game with a most commendable analysis of 6-0-41-4. Rayan's equally impressive return was 6-0-36-1. Greenside closed at 213-9 after 40 overs. The wind had been difficult & the fielding & catching suffered a little.
In reply Aadi & Belinda faced the seam of Karan (lm) & Britten (rm). Aadi pulled 4 then 6 in over one. In over 2 Belinda (1) aiming to leg, edged high to extra cover to be caught off Britten, 11-1.
A quiet passage of play until both batters hit boundaries in over 10, but in Karan's next 2 wickets asFraser Hall (11) top edged to cover & Ani Kalluri (0) was bowled as the ball seamed in, 44-3.
There followed the partnership previously described between Aadi & James Lunn which set up the win. Melvin (rm), 6 overs, Foster (rm) 4 overs, Ward (rm) 2 overs, Rowell (rm)1 over all attempted to breakthrough but to no avail. As Aadi punched off the back foot , pulled anything short or drove straight. Lunny composed, pulled, drove through cover or straight & the total mounted.
In over 19 Aadi reached 50*, 92-3, & the pair took the minimum of a boundary an over for the next 15 overs reaching 156 in a Foster over that conceded 17 & then Rowell leaked 13 in his only over.
Aadi reached 100* in the 29th over pushing a single off Young-Ridden. In the next consecutive 6's to Aadi off Britten, straight & to mid wicket but at 201 in the same over Aadi (115, 96b, 10x4, 7x6) was bowled when a short ball did not bounce.
Lunny (67*, 61b, 8x4, 2x6) continued with Aryan Kalluri (5*) to win the game after the pair took 11 from Young-Ridden's off spin in the 31st over; 214-4, a win by 6 wickets.
A magnificent victory, a record 4th wicket partnership, a record number (14) of balls lost between both teams in difficult fielding conditions with a swirling wind.
The 64's now on 193 points in NTCL Div 5 South, joint third behind leaders Annfield Plain on 219 after 9 games.
Onward to Sat 20 June 1864's v Newton (a) 1300 40/40. We hope you can be there to cheer the team on.
