A slightly overcast but warm day at Priors Flat greeted the Bulls, who lost the toss & were asked to field. The wicket pitched toward the terrace. Will Young (rm Pav) & Joseph Dresser (rm allotments) were faced by Ben Griffiths & Dan Nevin.
A wicket in over two as Griffiths (3) drove to gully off Joseph where Angus took a neat catch, 9-1. Amid wides, a no ball & 9x4 in the first 10 overs the total had reached 64 with Morrow 32* Nevin 21*.
Ru's 5 over spell conceded 35 but Hamish was bowling in a nice rhythm from the bottom end with the longer boundary to the tennis courts. In over 16, his third, Marrow (46,44b,7x4, 1x6) was lbw, pushing forward, 87-2.
104 after 20 overs & then in the 22nd Joe Barber (11) mistimed a drive off Hamish to be caught by Joseph at mid on, 117-3. This became 126-4 three overs later as Platts (5) seemed unlucky to be adjudged lbw to Ben H. Another wicket in the next as opener Nevin (48,73b, 5x4 1x6), on the back foot, was bowled by a quicker one from Hamish, 134-5.
Hamish's tidy 10 over spell ended in over 30, 3-34, a good return. A partnership of 36 followed as C Barber & Ferguson rebuilt. Ben's final two overs were expensive so Will Y returned in over 32 at 157-5.
In over 36 C Barber (32, 40b, 4x4) drove Will Y to Ru at extra cover, 170-6. In the next J Southern (0), as non striker, was run out as Ben Sid's throw from mid on beat him to the w/k end. Then, one over later, Ferguson (5) skied to mid wicket off Will Y for Angus to take the catch, 173-8. Peter (1) was lbw to Joseph in the next missing a straight one, 174-9.
Ben Sid's off spin accounted for Martin-Dobson(5) in the 46th when a flighted delivery defeated the drive & he was bowled. 201 all out, good bowling,19 wides notwithstanding !, safe catching & decent ground fielding to commend.
In reply Ewart & Edwards were faced by the seam of Odd (pavilion) & Platts (allotments). An explosive start from Sam as he lifted Odd into the terrace & the car park for 6.4.6. But at 41 in the 6th over Sam's (26, 17b 2x4 2x6) attempted reverse sweep was adjudged lbw to Platts.
Nick joined David 15* & immediately stroked Platts for 4,2,2 to cover & in the next from Odd, 4.6.4 to cover, fine leg & straight, 71-1 after 10 overs. Barber (rm) & Martin-Dobson took up the attack. David took 2,4 off Barber then 4,4 off Martin-Dobson but in the 16th a leg cutter bowled him (37, 38b 5x4)as he drove, 104-2, Nick 39*
Angus drove Martin-Dobson through cover in over 18, Nick drove 4.3 off Barber in the next, 125-2 after 20 overs. Nick reached 53*with a glance to fine leg in the 22nd over.
Pushing 3 singles an over with the occasional stronger shot the total had reached 145 when C Barber (ob) began a spell which conceded 6 in his first over. 167-2 after 29 overs but then some acceleration as Southern J conceded 18 off over 30, 1.6.4 X, 2 X2,1.1, the maximum over extra cover to Angus, 185-2.
The 31st bowled by Peter yielded 14 including another 6 pulled to the terrace by Angus as he reached 50*, Nick 76*. The win was achieved in the next as Southern J was driven by Southern AP through cover for 4.
A win by 8 wickets, Nick 77* ( 73b,10 x4,1 x6) & Angus 56* (64b,5 x4,2x6) a chanceless, undefeated, left hand, right hand partnership of 101, bravo !
