A tough test for a young team facing a Burnmoor side with lots of 2nd X1 experience. Burnmoor chose to bat on a sunny evening. Batey & Reed were faced by Leo Harper(rm) & George McConnell (lm). A fast start 13 from over 1 then in the second over Batey (5) top edged a pull from George which was taken by w/k Matty Rathbone, 13-1.
Reed & Davidson pushed on taking the total to 57 in the 7th when Reed (24) was caught by Matty Rathbone, standing up to Leo, one ball after he had not managed to cling onto another chance, 2 down.
In Will Oliver's first Davidson (27) was bowled 60-3. Jacques Graham (sla) & Ben Lee (lb) then bowled the next 6 overs. At 68 in the 11th Ali (4) was bowled by Jacques. A tough over for Ben conceding 19 but then in the 13th R Henderson (22) was bowled by Jacques, 91-5.
Ben bounced back in over 14 bowling Guest (8) & two balls later Will Oliver took a good running catch at long on to dismiss C Henderson (1), 102-7. Aadhav Sahadevan & Ben suffered in overs 17 -19 conceding 45, but in the last George returned to take two wickets, Wales (11) bowled & next ball A Ord (0) also bowled. The innings closed at 160-9 after 20 overs B Ord 39*.
In reply George McConnell & Belinda Wewalage faced the seam of Reed & Guest who both bowled well. George (3) sweeping, was bowled by Reed in the third over & Belinda (4) caught off Guest in the 4th, 8-2.
Jacques & Will Oliver pushed the score nicely onto 36 in the 8th when Will (6) skied to cover off Batey. In the next Jacques (20, 22b) a positive innings, was caught by Batey off C Henderson. Leo Harper (0) was caught at cover in the same over, 40-5.
Paddy Rathbone & Matty raised the total to 56 in the 13th when Matty (4) was bowled by Batey. A spirited partnership of 24 between Stephen Harper & Paddy ended at 80 in the 17th when Stephen (11) was caught by C Henderson off R Henderson.
Paddy (14) retired in the 17th to allow Arran Joseph & Aadhav Sahadevan to bat & they performed admirably. The innings ended at 91-8 after 20 overs, Aadhav 4*, Arran 7*.
A creditable performance against strong opposition.
